with piracy eatin the industry, producers can not invest money into movie production because they re afraid that they might lose the money they spend. therefore, to improve nollywood quality piracy must first be deal with.

How about you critics invest in the industry? The housewives and market women who patronize them are not complaining, this is an industry that is waiting for innovation. Here is an opportunity to make it better, if you don't have solutions then stop complaining. Naija pple!!!

cheesy cheesy I'M NOT SURPRISED, IT'S ALL A FALLOUT OF THIS SAME SHORT-CUT & FIRE BRIGADE APPROACH TO EVERY THING. SENSE OF PROFESSIONALISM IN NIGERIA IS SO LOW, MANY NIGERIAN PROFESSIONALS SEE IT AS A WASTE OF TIME OR RESOURCES TRYING TO DO SOMETHING OUTSTANDING, WHAT THEY SAY IS, 'LET'S JUST DO IT LIKE THAT, THAT'S THE WAY OTHER PEOPLE DO THEIR OWN'. SO HOW CAN STANDARD IMPROVE TO MEET VIEWER'S EXPECTATION. you see am! - PEACE

Re: When will nollywood lay emphasis on quality? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 4:16pm On Aug 09, 2010
3 things why Nollywood continues to produce more crap, illiterate movies than good ones
1: PIRACY, good or bad, the cheap pirated movies will sell and Nigerians will buy and watch cheap nonsense cos there is nothing else on the table in terms of alternatives (like really good Nollywood releases)
2: FUNDING is primarily from personal savings or some big Alaba trader who sponsors the movie and expects top naira for his effort. so scripts are a mish-mash of old and played-out movies, Roles are stupidly dim, like the roles Mercy Johnson plays (either Thighs or Bra will do).
3: AUDIENCE no get mouth to complain and get their money's worth

Why is evry1 criticising Nollywood??
Cant we just support our ppl for once?? At least they are doing something tangible rather than doing nothing and then resorting to crime and other things disruptful to the country!
The only people holding back the progress of Naija is Nigerians.
We need to learn to encourage one another more, and give suggestions for improvements not just criticise, criticise all the time!

Na wa for Nigerians!

Positive Criticism brings out the best in a bad situation. an Nollywood is heading for one with the way they are approaching film-making and producing.
If Nigerians are not the ones to tell them this sorry truth, then is it Hollywood that will tell it on CNN one day?

The Truth is bitter but necessary, no any suggestions on how to make things right
Re: When will nollywood lay emphasis on quality? by jmoore(m): 7:24pm On Aug 09, 2010
Piracy is a big issue but that is not a justification to produce films that lacks quality. The us movie industry Hollywood makes billons of dollars a year but you can see that 99.9% of their movies that are sold in Nigeria are pirated(so Nigeria contributes almost nothing to Hollywood profits). If a producer in Nigeria film industry produces a movie that has good quality, it will have an international acceptance and with the right distribution channels, he or she can make millions of dollars from usa,europe e.t.c without worrying about the piracy issue in Nigeria

@poster, as long as the illiterates are still the ones calling the shots, they NEVER will
Re: When will nollywood lay emphasis on quality? by kelvin(m): 11:43am On Aug 10, 2010
[s]NEVER[/s] Did I just say that out loud?
I mean, I would like to be optimistic and say,"Soon, we are getting there" but the truth is that we are not getting there. As long as viewers continue to accept the play on tape movies, pirates will continue their acts, producers will continue with their little funding causing directors and writers to continue directing and writing rubbish, and actors and actresses acting nonsense. sad It is a vicious cycle, one that is bound to continue until someone takes the risk and breaks away.

@GAR3TH

The "IJE" movie looks and sound fabulous only because someone (The Director: chineze anyaene) was determine to walk the extra mile, do the extra work, go away gain valuable experience to produce a master class,

If the rest are willing to do the extra work, put in the extra shift, Nigeria would produce better movies, compared to the CRASH, BANG, WALLOP approach to producing movies

ozaro:

we need to face our problems one at a time.I think what we have to do first is work on our storyline;most of which are whack.Then we can focus on acting, Piracy isn't helping either.

True talk and then again to get rid of NGWADACs

if you want to know who are NGWADACs go to

The day Nigerians stop buy their useless trash.

You are absolutely right, OMEGA made that point in this thread
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-493091.0.html

Since so many naijas dont know d difference btween quality stuff and mediocre stuff, those NGWADACs would continue to produce what appeals to naija, hence this lackluster market so until Naijas starts insisting on good quality movies.

@Gar3th
thanks for the link(especially "the making of street of Calabar"). my faith have been slightly restored knowing that some FEW people out there are willing to work properly in Nollywood to make quality pictures. . . . . . . . .stunt director, proper extras, proper filming/lighting/sound equipment and technicians, fantastic!!!!
