Two Catholic Priests of Umueze Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State have been reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen while coming from Onitsha to prepare for the visit of Francis Cardinal Arinze to the town.


The priests, whose names were not provided as at press time, and who were said to be clergies in charge of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Umueze Anam, were kidnapped at Nneyi village, Umueri, Anambra East LGA, while on their way to Umueze Anam.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Haruna Muhammed, has confirmed the development.

The police spokesman said the incident occurred on Christmas Eve; adding that police patrol team attached to Otuocha Division recovered a light grey Toyota Corolla car with REG. NO. FST 689 FL. which was abandoned at Nneyi Umueri road.


Preliminary investigation, according to the PPRO, revealed that the car belongs to one of the abducted priests. He said the abductors took the Catholic priests away and abandoned their car.


"Meanwhile, the case is under investigation and effort is ongoing to rescue the victim and apprehend perpetrators in order to bring them to justice", the PPRO added.
