Questioner: The question I want to ask Dr is about marriage cermony that people do that they pick uniform cloth, is it in line with sharia'h of Islam or not？

Dr Sharof: Alhamdulilah. Firstly, it can only fall under 'it is good and not bad' under Allah's law. That we wear uniform cloth for celebration. Whether the husband's family, or wife's family, or friends, or colleagues etc. (have their distinct cloth that tell them apart from others). There is nothing bad in this that we where uniform cloth as long as people do not feel uncomfortable to dress like (high school) students. There is nothing bad in this. Na'am.

Questioner: I want to ask the teacher about ceremonial cloth (Asoebi) that we buy, (some words not clear) how does Islam view it？

Dr Sharof: Firstly, that you buy cloth (Asoebi) because of a ceremony, because you want to celebrate due to the good that has happened. And that you want to use it as a sign (so that in future you can point and say) 'when good happened to so and so, this was the cloth we bought so as to join him in celebrating the good that happened to him', we beseech Allah that there is nothing bad about it.

But if it were that they mandate it on people, and they say it is a must you wear it, and that those who do not wear it should not visit the place (of ceremony), and that as for who does not buy the cloth, that is a sign of his lack of love toward us. You know most of us are in the race of making ends meet, most people do not have what to eat, they are famished, then you mandate it on them to buy a cloth ―― so if we do not mandate it on people, and if Islam does not make wearing such kinds of cloth (you choose) forbidden either for males or females, we beseech Allah that it is not bad. There is nothing bad about this under Allah's law. Na'am.

Questioner: The attendees of some Nikaah ceremony used to put on the same attire. Is there any evidence for this?

Dr Sharof: There is no problem about it if they won’t be shy that they look like students.

The Congregation: Laughing mode activated!

Dr Sharof: As for whether it makes you leave the pale of Islaam or makes you an innovator, this is not correct. This is a way of celebrating (with the one doing the Nikaah). You know the Yorubas do not mind doing this. That is it. There is no problem about it. What about the uniform attire worn for burial ceremonies? Allaah forbid (it’s not permissible)! That is it.
