The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to allow the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, retire on January 15, the IG’s 60th birthday.

The party said this was one of the ways the President could convince Nigerians and the international community about his commitment to have free, fair and acceptable elections this year.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, who stated this while answering questions in Abuja on Wednesday, said there was no need to extend the tenure of the IG.

He said the police force as an institution had many officers that were capable of leading the NPF.

There are insinuations that the Presidency is plotting to extend the tenure of Idris because of his alleged closeness to Buhari and the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress.

However, the PDP said that President Buhari must show evidence that he would match his words with action, just as he said in his New Year message that the coming elections would not be a do-or-die affair.

Nevertheless, Ologbondiyan said that if the APC and the President were not planning anything negative, they should allow Idris to retire.

He said, “One of the ways to demonstrate or show that he (President Buhari) is committed to free, fair and credible elections, is not to extend the tenure of the IG, who is due for retirement this month.

“He has said that he is committed to having transparent elections. He needs to tell Nigerians by his actions, and not merely with words of mouth.”

Tenure elongation is reinforcement of failure, says PSC member

In a related development, a member of the Police Service Commission, Najatu Muhammad, has described tenure elongation in the force as what she described as “reinforcement of failure.”

Muhammad, who represents the Nigerian women in the commission, said there was no way she would keep silent as a key stakeholder in the police and national security establishment.

She said it was even wrong to start discussing the extension of the tenure of the IG and service chiefs who she alleged had failed.

In a statement made available to The PUNCH, she stated, “The idea of extending the tenure of the IG and the service chiefs who have woefully failed is a farcical travesty which abuses the patience and common sense of Nigerians. We can expect that the call of millions of people across party lines for their immediate retirement is not going to be unheeded by the President.”

Muhammad said that there were instances where policemen had absconded from their duties due to poor welfare, adding that the alleged evidence of abuse of power should not be ignored.

She said that protests by gallant men and women of the police force as seen in Borno, Owerri and Buni Yadi were unprecedented.

She stated, “Today, officers are abdicating from even training, rather than allowing themselves to be treated like cannon fodder; poorly armed, poorly paid , poorly trained and led to their early graves in droves while some of their junior ones are given rapid accelerated promotions to superior (and juicy) positions without training or recourse to due process.

“This is the prevailing environment within the Police Force today – the direct result of which is indiscipline and fallen morale amongst officers and the rank.

How do you expect Buhari to work against his re-election?Did he sign electoral amendment bill?Did he fire Buratai inspite of worsening security situations in the country most especially in the Northeast?

Nigeria is a hopeless case that would not get better under Buhari or Atiku.Nigeria would enter a major debt crises within the next four years as the debts accumulated by Buhari becomes due for payment. Both Buhari and Atiku are top ranking fulani herdsmen that owns large herds of cattle. They would still pursue the fulani agenda by rejecting ranching and restructuring. No referendum, No elections.

Go and prepare for the worst and be ready to wrestle power from the jaw of a despot with much fight, and determination not this one you are playing around....

An Hausa man and a yoruba man entered a bar in a hotel.

There were so many people seated in the bar eating and drinking.

They spotted an Igbo man by the corner and could identify him because of his "Ishi Agu" regalia and red cap.

In order to spite and humiliate him, the hausa man called on the waitress...

"Waitress, serve everyone in this bar pepper soup as as appetizer except that miserable nyamirii seated at the corner", he said.

The waitress did as she was told and served everyone peppersoup except the Igbo man.

The Igbo man said nothing but smiled to himself.

After a few minutes, the yoruba man decided to contribute and said to the barman...

"Barman, serve everyone in this restaurant drinks excluding that useless omoo yiboo seated at the corner."

The barman did as he was instructed and served everyone drinks except for the Igbo man.

The Igbo man yet again said nothing but smiled to himself...

Because of this gesture, more people started trooping into the restaurant and ate and drank to their fill from the instruction of the Hausa and yoruba men while they made sure the Igbo man tasted nothing. Because of the crowd, the hall started becoming hot...

The two friends asked the waitress to put on the air conditioners to cool the place but she told them the AC were not working and needed repairs.

"I will pay for the repairs of the ACs as long as that nyamirin man does not enjoy the AC. You must send him out", the hausa man ordered.

The waitress tried to say something but the igbo man made a gesture for her to be silent, got up and went outside to the overflow.

An AC expert was called in and he proceeded to fix the Air conditioners.

While this was going on, they noticed that the television in the hall was not on and called the attention of the manager of the hotel who explained to them that the DSTv subscription had been exhausted.

"I will pay for subscription for 6 whole months as long as you tell that omoo yiboo man outside to vacate the overflow and leave the premises of this hotel entirely, said the yoruba man. "I don't want him to watch the television and enjoy what i paid for", he said.

The manager was awe-struck and wanted to say something in protest but the Igbo man once again made a gesture that the manager should be quiet and obey the man which he consented.

The yoruba man collected the decoder smartcard number and used his phone to subscribe for the DSTv and the Igbo man left the overflow to the gate of the hotel but this time, laughing so hard to himself.

Everyone was then seated in the hall and enjoying themselves.

When it was time to leave, the two friends asked for their bill and they were told it was over N500,000. They gladly paid and were happy that at least the Igbo man did not partake in the jamboree.

But on second thought and out of curiosity, they decided to ask the manager of the hotel a question...

They wanted to know why the Igbo man seemed not to be provoked by their actions but was rather laughing and happy...

The manager said with a smile on his face, "Because HE OWNS THE HOTEL!"

Moral of the Story: It doesn't matter the kind of humiliation the Igbo man is subjected to in Nigeria by other tribes because he will still benefit from it and smile at the end!

Such a dumb pdpigz. The closer we get to the election, the dumber this pdpigz gets.

So assuming buhari remove this IG on 15 Jan,
1. Is it atiku that will appoint the new IG to replace him?
2. Who will buhari appoint that thes dumbos will not still cry blue murder?
3. Who will be appointed as IG at that time that will not do everything for Buhari to win so that he can be IG for a long time instead of another candidate that will certainly remove him few months after swearing in?

Why not tell buhari to step down in Jan 15 for atiku so that the election can be peaceful?

Pdpigz already getting very desperate and frustrated thereby threatening us with crisis. No wonder, Atiku was thinking twice about signing the peace pact under the guise of communication error.

I really foresee some of these pdpigz thugs getting behind bars before, during and after election. undecided

Clap for yourself and your tortoise brain.

You appear deluded though.

Nobody hates ibos.

Hausa, ibo and yoruba are all 1.

Like all nations, they will have conflicts of interests and opinions.

But they will always work things out eventually.

Now crawl back to the hate hole you escaped from.

The problem is not asking that the IG be retired. Buhari can even retire him rgt now and appoint his brother or distant relative as the new IG, who would be worse and more biased than the present IG. But they should rather push for is electoral reforms. We need strong institutions not strong individuals for democracy to work as is seen in most developed countries. To think that Buhari who controls all these election defining agencies would give you free and fair elections is wishful thinking. Even if he wanted to, you really think desperate and smart politicians like Amaechi, Tinubu etc around him would allow him to do that, considering that their political relevance in Nigeria depends on PMB being reelected? I told pple that were boasting about throwing PMB out with their PVC that democracy died the moment GEJ handed over to PMB, that they can only say that to one who would grant free and fair elections, not PMB.
