The National Labout Congress President, Mr Ayuba Wabba, has confirmed that the NLC had a meaningful discussion with the federal Government on Tuesday, he promised another meeting will hold on Wednesday where talks about the new national minimum wage will be finalized.

Mr Ayuba Wabba said that labour leaders had agreed to meet with the Federal government on Wednesday by 1p.m to ensure smooth transmission of the minimum wage bill without delay.

We will still go ahead with the planned mass protest on Wednesday, the labour leader declared

The protest will about the implementation of the new minimum wage and has no bearing to its transmission though we are still looking at how it will be transmitted to the Hallow Chambers.

According to the NLC President, Mr Ayuba, this is a protest and not a strike action and the principal reason for the protest is to get all parties involved in the new minimum wage committed to the cause, it is different from the Bill transmission to the National Assembly, he added.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, said that the closed door meeting with labour on Tuesday was in the Positive and by Wednesday, the date of transmission to the National Assembly will be made known.

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Labout Congress threatened to embark on a nationwide protest, if by January 8th, the Federal Government fails to transmit the bill on new national minimum wage to the National Assembly.

The NLC gave the threat following President Buhari’s statement that a “high powered technical committee” would be set up to make sure that the new minimum wage implementation would not lead to an increase in borrowing.

Because there are processes to be followed on the Bill, it has been difficult to arrive at a specific date.

“We have to go to the Federal Executive Council with a council memo on the bill after that, we will go to the National Economic Council and the Council of State.

“But for the Council of State, the President has to look at his own time table and we will inform past Heads of State and Justice of the Federation. This can take two weeks.

“However, we are trying to see if we can accommodate all these meetings by next week because we cannot do Council of State meeting again this week.

“Immediately after that meeting (Council of State), we will transmit the bill,” he said.

Naija Politico reports that the meeting started about 9:05 p.m and ended at 12:00 a.m on Tuesday
