Symbian Ship Around 300,000 Mobile Phones Everyday

According to the Symbian Foundation, it managed to ship around 300,000 mobile phones each day during the second quarter in year 2010. A total number of 27 million devices were moved in the time frame, far more than what other mobile platforms managed to ship. Symbian Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization aimed at bringing innovation to the mobile space.

Symbian Foundation announced, "The Symbian Foundation today revealed it has shipped over 27 million devices in the Q2 period. This equates to almost 300,000 per day, 207 per minute or over three a second. These figures, released in Canalys' latest report (www.canalys.com/services/reports/spmt), highlight Symbian's continued position as the world's most popular smartphone operating system, which has now become the first to be shipped in over 25 million devices in the space of one quarter".
Lee M. Williams, Executive Director of Symbian, commented on the Canalys report, "These figures make for very positive news for the Symbian community. The smartphone market place has become more crowded than ever. So the fact we continue to outsell our competitors by such large margins, combined with all the feature commitments and developments published on our roadmaps, make us highly confident in our outlook and we will continue to embrace the challenges ahead".
Smartphone platform Symbian has been a market leader for quite some time now, but other mobile operating systems are getting closer to taking the smartphone market crown from it. According to some of the latest reports, the OS is losing market share fast, and Android might catch up pretty soon. But we hope its still become a leaser with upcoming Symbian^3and Symbian^4. Recently Google also announced to activating around 200,000 mobile phones each day, double the number of devices it used to activate daily about three months ago.
