We are only asking him to step aside pending the determination of his case by CCT. Someone undergoing criminal trial cannot preside over the Supreme Court. What if the case gets to the Supreme Court, do you want him to be the judge in his own case?
You and who is asking him to step down? make una no go campaign, dey look for who you go intimidate.

Who even told him, some of the justices in the Supreme doesn't have a hand in his predicament? grin grin

Like I said, it is an ambush, and the FG played it very well....the man is a major obstacle to the fight against corruption..
Until then.BTW he will remain the CJN and continue to appoint SC judges to sit on electoral cases most notably the Osun election and Rivers and Zamfara APC no candidates cases

The General believes that it is still 1984 all over again. But he is in for something else.

Re: Buhari Has No Powers To Sack The CJN by PaChukwudi44: 7:01pm On Jan 12
An Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Friday dismissed the 13-count charge of fraud brought against a Supreme Court justice, Sylvester Ngwuta.

Mr. Ngwuta was arraigned by the federal government, after his house and the residences of six other judges were raided by operatives of the State Security Service in October 2016.

The trial judge, John Tsoho, said the prosecution ought to have first ensured the discipline of the defendant by the National Judicial Council, before filing a suit against him.

Mr. Tsoho’s decision followed a similar judgement by the Lagos Division of the Appeal Court in December 2017.

The appellate court, in the said judgement, faulted the prosecution for what the court regarded as a negation of Section 158 (1) of the 1999 constitution which empowers the NJC with the responsibility of punishing erring judicial officers.

Following that judgement, in a case involving a Federal High Court judge, Hyeldzira Nganjiwa, Mr. Ngwuta’s lawyer Kanu Agabi, approached the court with a request that the ruling renders charges against his client null and void.

Mr. Agabi, a former Attorney General of the Federation, said the decision of the higher court rendered the charges against his client primarily defective.

The court granted all the prayers sought by the defendant.

That appeal court ruling was faulted by many Nigerians and activists who said it meant judges enjoyed some form of immunity from prosecution not envisaged by the constitution.

Obviously this case will end like that of Justice Ngwuta. No judge can be put on trial unless they have been indicted by the NJC.Buhari's plan is dead on arrival

So disappointed in you for this infantile post. Please grow up. Case stems from a petition by a CSO to CCB to investigate the CJN. It has no bearing with the presidency.

The author of the petition, Mr. Dennis Aghayan was a Buhari's media aide and the pioneer Publicity Secretary of the CPC. I think you need the "grow up" more.

The hypocrisy of some of you wailers stinks. Jonathan removed the then president of the court of appeal and you all supported him. Why are you now crying over Onnoghen? If Onnoghen has nothing to hide, he should simply recuse himself from presiding over the activities of the Supreme Court till CCT decide his case. Every justices that had been accused of corruption in the past all stepped aside till their cases were disposed. Onnoghen cannot be an exception.
are u talking of that tinubu's judge? Jonathan promoted him to Supreme Court judge, not removed.

saraki and chief judge positions re not the same. Chief judge of supreme court is task at administering justice if he is found wanting, he has no moral to preside over cases until the competent court of law have absolve him of any wrong doing. Onnoghen trials starts on monday. Before end of january nigeria will definetly have new chief judge of supreme court.

You said 'was'. Who is he afterwards? So whatever he chooses to do afterwards cannot be attributed to his independent thinking and decisions? Are you saying that whatever Reno, FFK, or any of GEJ previous aides choose to do now should always be viewed through the prism of their closeness to GEJ, abi? If they steal or kill today, such acts should always be tied to GEJ, abi? You have an infantile reasoning. Grow up. The guy runs a CSO, he acts on its behave as you can deduce.

He was promoted to the Supreme Court and he declined the offer. The NJC acting on Jonathan’s prompting subsequently suspended him over the Sokoto state suspended judgement. NJC later realized the silliness of their decision and promptly cancelled the suspension and reinstated him back to office but Jonathan refused to allow him go back to his office.

Again, if Salami is Tinubu’s judge and you feel what Jonathan did to him was right, Onnoghen is also a well known Wike judge and what is coming his way is also justified. All partisan Judges must be thrown out of the judiciary including Mary Odili.

That is the reason FFK and Reno are seen as PDP appendages even when they speak their opinions. Why do you want us to think otherwise in this case?
