Insecurity: Gov Idris Fears for 2011 Polls

Governor Ibrahim Idris of Kogi State has alerted the nation that the 2011 election might not be hitch-free unless the present trend of kidnapping, violent crime, thuggery, militancy, illegal arms possession and sectarian crises are checkmated.
Represented by the state commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief J.T. Faniyi, the governor made this known at the Confluence Beach Hotel Lokoja, while declaring open a two-day security awareness seminar for top government functionaries/stakeholders at the state and Local Government levels.
While commending the State Security Service (SSS) for initiating the workshop, the governor opined that “it is relevant to employ complementary crime fighting alternatives to rid the society of undesirable elements.” He noted that one sure way of doing that is to reinforce security awareness of the citizenry through seminars and workshops.
Although he noted that Kogi State is one of the states vulnerable to political violence, he warned youths to desist from thuggery and embrace various channels of self-enhancement schemes put in place by the state government through its youth empowerment programmes.
The commissioner who was also represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Pharmacist James Yusuf lauded the policy initiative of the governor for approving the workshop totally organised free-of-charge for participants
He called on all and sundry to collaborate with the security agencies to safeguard life and property.

Insecurity has become the bane of free and fair elections in Nigeria. It is a concern to all well meaning Nigerians.
