The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, has urged the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to probe into political violence attack in the State.

This was contained in a statement by the party’s executive caretaker publicity secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, that recent political attacks in the state call for concern.

TribuneOnline recalls that suspected political thugs disrupted the campaign rally of the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Rotimi Paseda, in Ijebu-Ode, on Friday.

Barely 24-hours after, another political violence was recorded when the supporters of the APC governorship candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, were waiting for his arrival for the ward to ward tour of Odogbolu Local Government Area, on Saturday.

Oladunjoye in the statement claimed that unknown gunmen opened fire on the waiting which left three people, including, a Police Officer injured.

The Caretaker Publicity Secretary said that the party had previously raised the alarm over alleged plan to attack its candidate and supporters in the cause of the on-going campaign in the state.

It, therefore, called on the IGP to set up an independent panel that will report to the Force Headquarters directly, to investigate not only the attack on its candidate and supporters but the rising political violence in the state.

“Having previously and publicly raised an alarm last week over planned attack on our candidate and supporters, we hereby call on the Inspector General of Police to quickly set up an independent panel, that will report to the police headquarters directly, to investigate not only the attack on the supporters of Prince Dapo Abiodun, but also the recently escalating political violence in the once peaceful state.

“We want to assure our teeming supporters all over Ogun State that our ward-to-ward tour to the nooks and crannies of Ogun State shall continue, as we will ensure that all that is humanly possible under the laws of the land, will be done to guarantee the safety of lives and properties. We call on the police to be alive to their constitutional responsibilities,” the statement said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident that happened at Odogbolu.

He said that the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had forces the Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer, Odogbolu, to ensure the arrest of the hoodlums.
