Onnoghen Must Appear In Court, CCT Chairman Insists; Case adjourned (Read Live Updates)



Counsel to the defendant Olanipekun, SAN says the defence is stating what the law says and not feelings or thinking as the prosecutor is making the court to believe. Says they have an interlocutory applicatn pending before the CCT that it has no jurisdiction to hear case against Onnoghen.

[1/14, 11:52] ‪+234 813 556 8075‬: Prosecutor Aliyu Umar, SAN states that there is no reason why the accused Justice Walter Onnoghen should not be in court for arraignment so he could plead guilty or not guilty as the right service was done.

Olanipekun states equivocally that CJN Walter Onnoghen is not running away from the CCT but insists that the tribunal has no jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Aliyu Umar, SAN states that service was to done the CJNs Personal Assistant and there is no reason why the accused Justice Walter Onnoghen should not be in court for arraignment so he could plead guilty or not guilty.

- Defence Counsel, Olanipekun SAN says while insisting that service was not properly done on CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen and that the CCT has no jurisdiction to hear the case.

Prosecutor wants service of case to be done at most this week to Justice Walter Onnoghen since he said it wasn't properly done initially. But Defence Counsel Olanipekun says that's too short. He is asking for 28th of January for proper service and resumed hearing.

Case adjourned to Tuesday January 22nd 2019 for proper service and appearance of Justice Walter Onnoghen in case of FG vs ONNOGHEN.

CCT Chairman Danladi Umar says service should be done by Wednesday and hearing to resume on Thursday this week but Defence Counsel Olanipekun kicks, says the timing is too short.

"I'm in charge of my court, not you" Umar replies Olanipekun.
