Foreign Based Medical Outreach Donates Medical Equipment To Ondo

Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu yesterday took delivery of multi million naira medical equipment, drugs and other clinical and non clinical essential items donated to the State government by Sharing Hope Medical Mission from the University of California, SAN Diego.

The equipment are, central lines, laryngeal mask airway, ventilatory circuit, burns dressing, Endotracheal tubes, cardiac catheters, medical textbooks, medical laboratory equipment and many others, to assist the State health sector in improving the sector.

Receiving the equipment at the Governor’s offoce in Akure, Arakunrin lauded the support extended to the State by the Sharing Hope Medical Mission, saying it will go a long way in the delivery of better health care services in the State.

According to him, " ...whatever little help we get is always very important. You have been to one of our facilities in Ondo, where you went, what we have there is new. Your mission here is welcome and it will benefit all of us. It will go a long way to assist us… .”

The Governor however decried the challenges encountered in procurement of standard medical equipment in Nigeria, stressing that such donation by an organisation of international repute will no doubt safeguard many lives, rekindle the hope of many in the area of the health and meaningfully impact on the skills of the State health workers, particularly as his administration will continue to foster all round development across every sector.

Earlier during a press conference held in Akure, the Wife of the Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu – Akeredolu, whose office facilitated the donation of the items/equipment to the State expressed satisfaction with the development, noting that it will bring a better hope, treatment and care for the people.

She observed that the training the foreign based medical outreach would imbibe on the personnel would bring a paradigm shift in the development of the health sector in the State. She promised to always support the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu's administration towards changing the lives of the people to a better standard.

Also speaking, a Chief Burn Technician, UCSD, Dr. Emeka Anyanwu, who spoke on behalf of the team, noted that even though they have a ten -day working visit in the State, the team has been able to inspect facilities at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Teaching Hospital, Ondo, and would still visit the Akure Annex.

He said international medical experts who specialized in strategic areas of medicine, care and treatment of people are among team mates and would train medical personnel at the health facilities on various specialised and general areas related to health of the people.

The spokesman assured the government of the organisation's continued collaboration with it, particularly in difficult and strategic areas in order to improve the health of the people.

Some members of the team include, Jacinta McCourt Assistant Nurse Manager Burn ICU, Dr. Allison Berndtson, Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery, Dr. Sidney Merrihmd, Associate Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology, UCSD, Dr Emeka Anyanwu Chief Burn Technician , Burn Intensive Care Unit, Rebeca Wallingford, registered nurse at Interventional Radiology Department. UCSD and others.
