Kadaria Ahmed presented and produced programmes on the African Service of the BBC World Service Radio in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She was also an editor at the defunct 234 Next Newspapers.

Ms Ahmed was the moderator of the NN24 presidential debate in 2011. Muhammadu Buhari of the CPC, Nuhu Ribadu of the ACN and Ibrahim Shekarau of the ANPP took part in that debate.

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 31/12/2018

“THE CANDIDATES”
A PRESIDENTIAL TOWNHALL SERIES

As 91 political parties and their respective Presidential candidates vie to lead Nigeria’s next administration in the 2019 Election, ‘The Candidates’ a presidential town hall co-production between Daria Media and NTA, supported by the MacArthur Foundation, launches on the 9th of January, 2019.

The Candidates, is a four-part, two-hour live televised town hall meeting series, of the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates for the four leading political parties. These parties were selected from the results of multiple polls aggregated by the Centre for Democracy and Development.

The Candidates’ Presidential town hall will take place as follows:

Kingsley Moghalu and running mate, Umma Getso of the Young Progressive
Party – 9th January, 2019

Muhammadu Buhari and running mate, Yemi Osinbajo, All Progressives Congress Party –16th January, 2019

Omoyele Sowore and running mate, Rabiu Ahmed Rufai, of the African Action Congress Party -23rd January, 2019

Atiku Abubakar and running mate, Peter Obi of the Peoples Democratic Party – 30thJanuary, 2019

Kadaria Ahmed, arguably Nigeria’s foremost broadcaster and journalist will moderate each town hall.

The late John McCain was once quoted as saying, “The benefit of an open town hall meeting is one that you get to hear a lot of different views, and two it has credibility”.

The Candidates will provide a unique platform for direct interaction between the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates of the leading political parties in Nigeria and citizens.

There will be an audience of 100 people for each town hall, including CSOs and the Diplomatic Corps, as well as citizens (who have applied online via daria.media) selected via an impartial and fair application process; other participants will join the conversation via social media and phone calls. It will be an opportunity for Nigerians to hear directly from the aspirants and to ask them questions on governance and nation building.

The Candidates, will be broadcast across Nigeria on all platforms: live on NTA, and on all Radio Nigeria stations, other partner TV stations, as well as streamed online at www.dtv.media to enable Nigerians in the diaspora and those not near television screens to participate.

The producers of these shows have to prune down the number of candidates that can appear on their shows. There are quite a lot of candidates (around 70 candidates) and not all of them can appear.

Therefore, the producers of these shows set up online polls and got viewers to vote for the top 4 or 5 candidates that they would like to see.

Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar, Oby Ezekwesili, Kingsley Moghalu and Fela Durotoye were the top 5 for the debate (Sowore sued the debate organisers because they excluded him).

Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar, Omoyele Sowore, and Kingsley Moghalu were the top 4 for "The Candidates" (no Oby Ezekwesili or Fela Durotoye).

There were many other candidates that were excluded completely, e.g. Jerry Gana and Olawepo Hashim.

I think that the NTA's "Good Morning Nigeria" show is the only show that is featuring all the candidates. They have been featuring presidential candidates on their show since November (Donald Duke, Jerry Gana, Omoyele Sowore and Alistair Soyede are some of the candidates that have appeared on the show. I have never heard of some of the candidates that appeared on the show before they were featured).

Atiku should thank his stars that he traveled to the United States before appearing on the show. Kadaria Ahmed would have finished him with questions in that regard.

Ahmed exposed that Buhari should not have a business being in power. I look forward to Atiku's encounter with Ahmed.

In the animal kingdom, two lions fixed a date for The Great Big Fight. The winner of the fight would be the next King of the Jungle.

One of the Lions contesting, decided not to leave its lair on the day of the fight. The other Lion, prepared and ready, got to the arena in the forest where the other animals were waiting and saw three Pussycats.

'What's this?' The amused Lion asked the Monkey, who was the Referee.

'Bufasa couldn't make it. These Pussycats were sent by him to fight you instead', said the Monkey, trying to hide a smile.

The Other Lion laughed out loud, shook its mane in mirth and turned to the Monkey.

'When I was a cub, Pussycats were used as training game for me. When I was a cub. Did I come here for Pussycat meat or for a battle with another who has a withered mane? Please, don't insult my intelligence. I will go back to my own lair now but tell him that I await another day and time for the Great Fight. Pussycats, my foot!'

The Majestic Lion left the arena and the Pussycats decided to entertain the other animals gathered, for a throne they knew would never be theirs.
