Hidradenitis suppurativa is also known as acne inversa. According to Mayo clinic, Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a rare, relapsing, inflammatory skin condition that is characterized by small, painful lumps under the skin and are mostly found where skin folds such as the groin, the armpit, under the breast and between buttocks. The lumps may break open and smell or cause tunnels under the skin. It causes abscesses and scarring on the skin.
This inflammatory skin condition occurs in 1-4% world  population and it's often mistaken for acne, boils, or folliculitis (inflammation of the hair follicles). HS is not well-recognised even though its presentation is distinct and obvious from other skin condition. HS breakouts on both sides of the body and tends to return to specific locations such as armpit and groin.

The cause of this skin condition has not really been identified by Doctors. However, it is not caused my bacteria, it's not contagious, it's not caused by poor hygiene or any type of infection.

Factors that predispose you are obesity, female sex (three times more prevalent in women after puberty), history of HS in family, being a smoker, being between 20-29 years, and Crohn’s disease.

Proper treatment depends on an accurate diagnosis.
