If the CJN already admitted that he made a mistake for failing to declared his assets, which is not an excuse he has however failed to explain how a senior Judicial officer the number one Judicial officer amass such vast sums of money found in his account. He needs to prove that those large amount of money were not proceeds of a justice sell out. It is very disheartening to learn that very serious judgements presided over by this CJN are now questionable. How can we trust the judges again. If judgement is been procured by the highest bidder then there is no hope for the people of the land. It therefore bring to question various court judgments presided over by this man and every other judges in Nigeria. If the head is rotten, it affects the whole body. If the Chief Justice of Nigeria is corrupt how much more the judges of the lower courts.Am glad I have no case in any court, I would advice all meaningful Nigerians to boycott all court appearance untill there is a complete overhaul of the Nigeria Judiciary...

Equally, Mr Onnoghen’s credibility has been seriously tainted by the revelations of vast sums of money that he conveniently forgot to declare as part of his asset and he cannot continue as CJN. He should save Nigeria the present embarrassing conundrum by resigning his appointment.

Has anyone bothered to find out what the law guiding the code of conduct bureau says. The code of conduct is not to try corruption but non declaration of assets. The law says when the public official admits his error in declaration of assets, u withdraw the assets form and give a new one to fill not charge him to court.
Only when he denies the allegations that he is to charged to CCT which was not the case with the CJN so why charge to CCT.

That's the position of the law and until it is changed the CCB should do the needful, give the a new asset declaration form to fill and withdraw the case from the CCT unless they can prove that he has foreign accounts.

Unfortunately for them, domiciliary account is not equivalent to foreign bank account so no infraction there.

This is just tyranny rearing up having bullied the legislature into submission, gagged the press with hate speech, harassed the opposition in oblivion, strangled the populance with hunger and poverty, filled the echelon of the security architecture with your loyalists and now for the final operation to achieving to absolute control, total control of the Judiciary.

Welcome PMB the president for Life, BAT and Co should just forget 2023 because as long as PMB is alive, no one will smell the presidency again.

Lawyers say CCT ex parte order may be fraudulent: https://www.nairaland.com/4985582/lawyers-say-cct-ex-parte-order

Falana in a statement said, “The ex parte order is a suspect document, as the motion ex parte on which it was predicated was allegedly filed on January 9, 2019, while the substantive charge against the Chief Justice was filed at the registry of the Code of Conduct Tribunal on January 11, 2019. Furthermore, the counsel who argued the motion is not indicated in the ex parte order.”
On his part, Odinkalu observed, “When a motion is filed in a court or tribunal, it bears the name of the lawyer or person filing it.

“The motion has to be formally moved or argued on a date fixed by the court. In this case of #Onnoghen, the motion for his removal bears no name and the order doesn’t say who moved it.

“So, to sum things up, #Nigeria’s President @MBuhari, who has no recent memory of having obeyed any court order, purports to procure the removal of the CJN based on a petition that was not investigated, a charge that was not prosecuted and an ex-parte application that was not moved.”

Keep supporting a fraudulent APC govt.

Oga many of us condemning the act are not saying the man is innocent. Personally I don't care if he gets disgraced out of office if found culpable. What I detest is the utmost disregard for the constitution, the rule of law and everything that guides us as a natio of

You don't fight illegality with illegality same way you don't fight corruption with corruption. Buhari has no right to act the way he did and that action is Null and void. Of it were a wise move, why hasn't the attorney general come out to defend it, why hasn't osinbajo their VP come out to defend it?

They are even driving sympathy the way of the embattled CJN because it's now very glaring they are doing this as back up for the defeat they would receive in the hands of Nigerians in 19 days from now.

We are speaking against the illegality of the action because the judiciary is a separate arm of government not under the jurisdiction of the executive.

I never knew we still had sane and learned Nigerians like you Bro... Very aptly said.

This whole thing smirks of politics and mischief from a senile old man and a dying party having their last futile kicks. The CJN did not deny the allegation so what the CCB was meant to do was to give him another form but instead they charged him to a kangaroo CCT court to begin media trials which they are very good at. Paint the person bad then go for his jugular and have your demented supporters around the country write epistles on how you are the best thing since the discovery and how you are fighting corruption. Same old script!

But this time, men of good conscience would stand up and fight them to the finish. This week is going to be very Interesting. Osinbajo just canceled his appointment with rubbing minds because he knows there would be a public backlash but let's keep fingers crossed.

Sharing a country with such raving fools is unfortunate I must say the least

buharideens seem to vaunt your rudderless subjectivity at every given opportunity.

not 3 months ago, some buharideens were told how the petitions against Amaechi & other favoured looters was going nowhere with the efcc.

they said that nobody can do anything & due process must be followed. they further argued that until efcc does something on it, we cannot expect PMB to act on their matter.

now, PMB has bypassed due process & suspended Onnogen. as much as Onnogen deserves to be removed, disgracefully, from office if found culpable through due process, why didn't PMB follow the same due process of writing to the NJC & NAss & request the suspension of Onnogen?

why are buharideens suddenly up in arms against following due process when it comes to issues of wrong doing by PMB?

this is where I always differ from pmb's supporters & call them double standard hypocrites.

when those whom PMB does not like run foul of the law, he comes down swiftly & disregards due process & disobeys court orders.

when his favoured crooks are caught with hands in the cookie jar, he suddenly remembers that things have to be done slowly according to due process. who is deciving who?

today, babachir walks free, daura who essentially carried out a treasonable offence, walks free. Amaechi walks free, fayemi was allowed to recontest & win an election, oshio walks free & even brags about how converts to APC are free to enjoy their ill gotten wealth.

buharideens know these things, but choose to remain instruments of deceit & anarchy.

if Nigeria is to grow under PMB, he must treat every corruption case the same way. you either follow due process for every accused or you use the same dictatorial hand for all. that way, there would be some level of consistency in the anticorruption fight.

but what is due process ---

“We must recall that it was CJN Onnoghen who wrote the minority judgement in favor of the President in his 2011 election petition. In fact, that the President had to act today is simply a question of duty and adherence to rule of law. He had nothing personal against the Chief Justice.”

the CJ is the head of the NJC

should the CJ not have allowed the NJC to sit and then decide the case.
why did the CJ suspend sitting of the NJC indefinitely

so he is allowed to play a game of cat and mouse.

let's actually get to the core of the argument which your premium times (like pdp,nba and many others) has so cleverly ignored

why did the CJN hide his assets, why did he not declare everything, what is he hiding and is it morally right -as a chief judge to be dishonest.

he admitted to this offence and his excuse was that he forgot ---how can you forget billions of naira sitting in your bank accounts, how can you forget ownership of about 55 houses ...lol

I beg thief na thief..haba a whole CJ .....we are indeed shameless.

let me cut and paste from...

Akinloye pointed that Nigerians should not forget that monies were traced to bank accounts belonging to Justice Onnoghen. “We must remember that security agencies have also traced other suspicious transactions running into millions of dollars to the CJN’s personal accounts, all undeclared or improperly declared as required by law.

“We must also remember that the Chief Justice of Nigeria in his response admitted in to the charges. He was quoted as saying that it he forgot to declare the account, an act which is totally unknown to our laws as defences in the circumstances of his case”.

Akinloye then posed some questions to those who are opposing the suspension. “Should the President have simply ignored the allegations against the CJN? Or should the nation just pretend that this did not happen? Did the CJN actually forget to declare his assets? These are questions that must be asked”

Like all buharideens who chose not to read (or properly digest what was written), you have jumped around without understanding my position.

You hammer the CJN, fine, what about others who serve PMB but he has chosen to ignore?

You slam the CJN for being corrupt & praise PMB for not following due process in the matter...

Same 'you' will defend corrupt elements in pmb's government & provide justification why PMB should not lay down the same hammer he uses for those he dislikes...

That, is double standards & hypocrisy, which will not take Nigerians anywhere...

Exactly.

Why didn't PMB also write a petition to the NJC?

The petitions against Amaechi, fayemi, oshio & others that were published, what happened to them? you

The bottom line is this, if PMB wants to be a tyrant, he should make it applicable to all.

Anything other than that, your attempts to justify his actions amount to perfidy...

EXCLUSIVE: How Onnoghen Postponed NJC Meeting Indefinitely For Fear Of Being Suspended

“Even though no reason was adduced for the postponement of the meeting, Justice Onnoghen was not sure that the body would not suspend him until the conclusion of the case of false declaration of assets pending against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The fear of Justice Onnoghen is not unfounded as the National Judicial Council has placed all judges who are on trial on suspension pending the conclusion of criminal cases filed against them as a result of the 2016 arrest of judges for corruption," the source said.

with all due respect, you obviously have no idea how the NJC works.

do you know that a majority of the members can call for a meeting even if the chairman may not be n agreement?

the point here is that PMB did not explore all his 'legal' options before resorting to illegality.

the Judiciary is an equal arm of government & is one of the tripods upon which democracy stands.

the executive has no right to unilaterally suspend and/or remove the head of that arm of government.

doing that sounds the wrong signals...
