Fayemi dusts Elenka as Tribunal upholds Ekiti election.

The Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja has today upheld the victory of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

In the judgment read today after exhaustive deliberations, the Tribunal upheld that there was no basis to cancel the elections held in listed local governments where the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) claimed there were irregularities.

The PDP had challenged the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to have declared Dr Fayemi as the winner.

The Tribunal, led by Justice Suleiman Belgore said it was wrong to contend that the third respondent, Dr Fayemi did not win the election thereby dismissed the PDP petition. It stated that the weight of the allegations was very low and therefore have no value. The Tribunal faulted most of the documents tendered by the PDP having failed to establish the relief sought.

The parties to the petition tagged EPT/EKS/GOV/01/18-PDP Olusola INEC, APC and Fayemi had earlier made their final written presentations. Today, the Tribunal upheld the prayers of Fayemi’s counsel, Charles Edosomwan, (SAN) Akin Olujimi, (SAN) and Lateef Fagbemi, (SAN) to dismiss the petition filed by the PDP as lacking merit.
