The Presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), Dr. Davidson Isibor Akhimien has faulted the Tradermoni being disbursed by the Federal Government to over 1.5 million petty traders.

Akhimien said TraderMoni initiative is a wrong approach to empowering ordinary Nigerians and lifting them out of poverty.

The Presidential hopeful who spoke during the party’s rally in Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Council Area of Edo State, added that the measure rather than banish poverty will make the people poorer.

According to him, the GDPN views the TraderMoni loan initiative as vote buying and a strategy to further impoverish Nigerians.

He said: “GDPN, as a political party thinks TraderMoni loan initiative is a wrong approach to economic development and empowerment of the people.What we need today is not TraderMoni loan initiative of sharing N10, 000.



"Let the Federal Government show us Industrial Hubs and Factories put in place all around the country to reduce unemployment and poverty.”

Akhimien noted that the failure of the ruling party to fulfill its campaign promises has contributed to the increasing poverty in the country.

According to the retired military intelligence officer, President Buhari’s government should focus on improving the power sector to drive industrialisation.

This, he explained, would create jobs for the teeming unemployed Nigerian youths, improved the Gross Domestic Products(GDP) and Gross National Income(GNI) of the nation.
