Smartphone Usage Habits: The Dos & Don'ts by Ayebaeapretai(f): 9:13am On Feb 04, 2019
Your smartphone is part of you, you use it everyday, it is a habit. Well of course our phones are really helpful, but as we use our gadgets there are some things we should do and things we should avoid.

1. Respecting people you are with:

Of course you are a busy person, that's ok. But when you are with others, be it in a meeting or with some friends, they deserve your complete and undivided attention. Calls should be suspended, but if any call is urgent, you may apologize and ask for permission before taking the call.

2. Be responsible when dining:

When having a meal with friends or your family, you should keep your phone away from sight, texting while dinning is not a good etiquette, if you always have important calls to attend to, it will be polite to take those calls off the dining table.

3. Keep a lower voice during calls:

Research has shown that an average person talks three times louder on the phone than when having a face to face conversation. Hence be mindful of your volume when making calls. Generally you don't have to shout on the phone to be heard, doing so makes it harder for the receiver to comprehend you. Additionally, shouting on the phone disturbs people around you, and scare kids, so keep a moderate tone.

4. Use the silent mode:

When at work, in an appointment or with friends ensure to silence your phone, I'm not saying silence your phone totally, you can set it to vibration, it will be harsh/rude to hear loud ringtones frequently when in an appointment.

5. Avoid multitasking at odd time:

Well you may enjoy multitasking because it makes you cover a lot in a short time, but at odd situations avoid multitasking as much as possible. For example, making calls when driving, chatting while banking, doing multitasks at odd times can put your life or the life of others at risk.

Courtesy and smartphone etiquette are similar, whenever you are using your smartphone be thoughtful of the next person.

GOOD MORNING!
