Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information on Monday said Nigeria’s unity will not be threatened by the conduct of the forthcoming general elections.

Momoh, one of the national leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also said those predicting that the elections will signal the end of Nigeria are bunch of jokers who will be put to shame.

Momoh, who spoke in a chat with Daily Independent, said just as the expectations of doomsday prophets who predicted the end of Nigeria during the 2015 elections were dashed, the same will happened to those who had claimed the forthcoming elections would mark the end of the country.

He also warned those intending to manipulate the process or cause violence during the elections to perish the thoughts as they will be decisively dealt with.

“I am telling you that there won’t be any threat to Nigeria’s unity. The elections will be peaceful and transparent. Those who think Nigeria will collapse because of election are jokers and will be put to shame. People will come out and vote peacefully. Anyone who wants to rig or disturb the peace of the country will be crushed”.

Also speaking on the endorsement of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by five socio-political organisations, which include Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Northern Elders’ Forum, Pan-Niger Delta Forum and the Middle-Belt Forum, Momoh said the endorsements do not really count as many of the leaders have a single vote each and don’t usually come out to vote on election day.

“I don’t see anything wrong in their adoption of Atiku. These groups add value to the quality of supports of different people but don’t forget that they all have one vote. At the end of the day, your prayers are answered through the votes you gathered. Many of these people endorsing, how many PVCs do they have? How many supporters do they have who have PVCs to vote?”

“Out of 84 million registered voters, APC and PDP may not have up to 30 million membership. All others are undecided. It doesn’t even mean that all the members of APC and PDP will come out and vote on the day of election”.

“All of us are struggling for 84 million registered voters but out of this figure, not up to half will come out and vote. These people claiming support do not have more than verbal support. Many of these people who are endorsing this and that usually don’t come out to vote on Election Day,” he said.

In a related development, Afenifere, one of the groups that endorsed Atiku on Sunday, said it will not respond to the claim of Festus Keyamo, spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, that they alongside other groups who endorsed Atiku, are hardened supporters of the PDP.

Speaking with our correspondent, Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, said they have no regard for Keyamo based on his recent utterances that the United States lost its position on the corruption index because of Atiku’s visit to the country.

only restructuring can save this country
The current system only favours the politicians to the detriment of the masses
Atiku means restructuring... It's a start
We can't continue like this
Buhari cannot do anything... The foundation is faultyNigerians are also unwilling to protest in the face of a rigged election - They will just manage it instead.
Nigerians are not prepared to war.Of all the presidential contestants Buhari is the weakest healthwise, worst education and grossly demented. Those saying "sai baba" are those reaping from the gaping wounds Buhari's cluelessness, old age and compound ignorance create. They don't care if Nigeria collapses. Don't destroy Nigeria because of greed. Posterity will not forgive you.
