Jose Mourinho, former Manchester United manager, has accepted 12 months suspended jail sentence and a fine of close to €2 million after the Portuguese gaffer was accused of evading tax in the region of €3.3m (£2.9m).

The 56-year-old is unlikely to spend any time behind bars as applicable to first-time offenders under Spanish laws.

Mourinho is accused of committing tax fraud between 2011 and 2012 while he was the manager of Spanish giants Real Madrid.

But earlier in 2016, his representatives had said in a statement that he was “fully compliant with tax obligations” shortly after reports of his tax fraud surfaced online.
