5 Ways To Speed Up Your Wordpress Website by IamOlusa(m): 11:33am On Feb 07, 2019 |
5 WAYS TO SPEED UP YOUR WORDPRESS WEBSITE One of the frustrating 1. Use A Fast Hosting Provider. Fast host is a must. If you use a slow host, then no matter what you do, your site will struggle to fly. Think about it this way: your host is the foundation on which your website is built. It is critical to pick a good one. The host that I recommend to most people, having used them Myself are SiteGround (prices start at $3.95 a month) and Qservers 2. Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) A CDN takes all of the static files (images, CSS, Javascript etc) on your site and lets visitors download them as a fast as possible by serving the files on servers as close to them as possible. At aThemes we use KeyCDN and I use it on my other sites too. The pricing is reasonable and their dashboard is easy to use. If your site uses static resources like images, CSS and Javascript you can use caching to speed things up. 3 Use a Caching PLUGIN Caching is where parts of your site are stored so that they only need to be loaded once. Caching is especially useful for return visitors and those who visit multiple pages on your site. We tested and compared 9 caching plugins, with WP Rocket (premium), Comet Cache (free) and WP Super Cache (free) coming out on top. 4. Compress Images This is a big one. Images tend to be the biggest files on a site, so if they’re uncompressed it can really slow things down. Luckily compressing your files is a pretty easy thing to do. On aThemes we use EWWW Image Optimizer, which automatically optimizes every single image we upload. It also has a handy Bulk Optimize feature, which allows you to optimize your entire Media Library in one go. 5. Optimize Database Tables To keep your database running smoothly, you should regularly (e.g. once a week) optimize the database tables. You can optimize your database tables manually using phpMyAdmin or with a plugin. I find a plugin easier, and use WP-Optimize, which allows you to optimize your database tables from your WordPress dashboard, as well as remove spam comments and comments in trash, unapproved comments, post revisions, and more.
