Clinton Turns Down National Peace Committee’s Invite by 2mercy: 7:10pm On Feb 11, 2019
*Says visit to Nigeria has the potential to be politicised

Former United States President Bill Clinton has turned down an invitation by the National Peace Committee to visit Nigeria from February 12 to 13 to deliver a goodwill message at the signing ceremony of the “National Peace Accord in Abuja, hinging his decision on the fact that a visit to Nigeria at this time has the potential to be politicised.

A statement by his Spokesman, Angel Ureña, said former President Clinton however looked towards talking to both candidates and former Head of State General Abdulsami Abubakar this week.

The peace committee had invited Clinton and the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Baroness Patricia Scotland, to visit Nigeria from February 12 to 13, ahead of the Nigerian presidential election. Both were billed to deliver goodwill messages at the signing ceremony of the “National Peace Accord” on 13 February.

A statement sent to THISDAY on Monday by the spokesman of the former US president said: “President Clinton appreciates General Abdulsalami Abubakar and the Nigerian National Peace Committee’s invitation to travel to Nigeria. He is incredibly supportive and respectful of the Committee’s efforts, of the election process, and of the work being done to try to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and transparent outcome. This is a crucial time in Nigeria, and President Clinton is hopeful that the election’s outcome reflects the will of the Nigerian people.

“Over the course of the last several days, and after various conversations with the different stakeholders, it’s become apparent that President Clinton’s visit to Nigeria has the potential to be politicized in a way that is not in line with the goals of the Committee. Therefore, he will not be traveling to Abuja.

“He looks forward to talking to both candidates and General Abubakar this week.”

These big men just de create office for themselves!

I thought the assignment of the National Peace Committee ended after the 2015 General election, but it appears Abdulsallam and co have turned it into a FULL TIME JOB with financial benefits.

Your decision is respected.

Sai Baba will definitely win the election peacefully and with a very wide margin.

Atiku and his ilks will start serious wailing 12pm on election day.
That is CONFIRMED already.

The people threatened the world with bodybag(death), watch their back.

Nigeria is still a helpless third world country, just one sanction will ground the whole country.

foolish political statement with his visit.

I'm neither here nor there with regards to Clinton's visit. What irks me is how FG was able to outsmart ASUU. According to the agreement, the N25bn will be released from April. Our academicians failed to take into consideration two important points:

1. Will there be funds to disburse after this election?

2. What if the present government loses, will the new government be willing to implement the agreement? Or will they blame their predecessor for signing an agreement they were not capable of doing?

If things don't go right, there might be another strike.

As for Clinton...all is well. Nigeria is a great Nation.

I guess he was well advised against the move.

Some people, were already seeing it as a move to advise the incumbent on how to relinquish power peacefully when he lose.

How some people believe it's that easy for an incumbent to lost in a general election like this is really baffling.

Sentiments apart, No matter how you do the permutations from either side, you will just find out how the incumbent is favored.

Anyways, what do i know? Saturday is barely 5days away.

Guess, We will just wait to find out, what powers a RULING PARTY possesses on Saturday February 16th 2019.
