The Supreme Court on Tuesday morning upheld the earlier judgment of an Appeal Court which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ban the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State from fielding candidates for the forthcoming general elections

In its ruling, the nation’s Apex court dismissed an earlier appeal filed by the APC challenging the judgment of a High Court which sat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The High Court had barred the ruling party from conducting any primaries in the state to nominate candidates that would represent the party in the elections.

However, the Court of Appeal granted stay of execution of the lower court's judgment which nullified all the primaries conducting by the APC in the state and restrained INEC from fielding the party's candidates in the general elections.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had also insisted that the APC in Rivers State would not be fielding candidates for the polls.

At an interactive meeting with reporters in Abuja last week, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Voter Education and Publicity, Festus Okoye said the Commission had taken a position on the issue.

Okoye had disclosed that the position of the electoral umpire had not changed in respect of Rivers state APC candidates for the National Assembly and governorship elections.

SAI ATIKUOBI FOR BETTER LIFE FOR ALL NIGERIANS....

SAI MR job$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...............Many people never expected Atiku to clinch the ticket, but yes he did clinched the ticket and even went on to win with a very large margin. The victory of Atiku sent a very big discomfort to the camp of the APC because of various reasons. To add injury to salt, the hope of the APC that the PDP candidates would disintegrate after the primaries sent a more serious confusion seeing that the PDP presidential candidates decided to bury whatever the outcome was at the presidential primary and to support each other.
Ever since Atiku clinching the PDP ticket, the APC have been jittering, even more was the news that Atiku was to be given a US visa after reconciling with Obasanjo, his former boss. I think the APC must have seen what many Nigerians have not yet seen and have been scheming very well in other to remain in power.
First they have believed that the President would win overwhelmingly in the North West, and that he would have to battle for other regions with Atiku. However, with the increasing love to get Nigeria Working again, the APC are embarrassed to see the North West giving so much support to Atiku. This has unsettled the presidency who are now looking for any means possible to make sure they retain power. The appointment of Amina Zarkari is another pointer that the President is not lying low in their bit to retain power a move which has been criticized by many Nigerians.
I think a government campaigning for another term would have been doing so with achievements.

I think yesterday in Ogun, they passed judgement on themselves. Even in the presence of the President, they threw stones.

Not surprised if this is true.

Anybody who read Justice Nwogu's ruling without bias and sentiments, wouldn't help but agree with the entire argument averred therein.

You guys conducted a shabby state working committee elections which disgruntled members challenged in court, and the Court nullified the process and declared that APC doesn't have state working committee.

In law, they had 14 days to appeal that judgement but they never did which implied assent to court judgement neither did they re-conduct their elections.

Months later, you conducted primary elections. Supervised by who? Ghost executives?

It will take the bending of the hand of justice for the Supreme Court to upturn that judgement.

APC should forget Rivers.

Up Wiked Wike!

Up Atiku/Obi
