Most Nigerians know who Murtala Mohammed is, the present generation grew up seeing his face on the N20 note. What some Nigerians may not know about Murtala Mohammed is that he was one of the biggest terrorists ever produced in Nigeria.

The man was a stone cold killer, war criminal, ethnic bigot, renowned coup plotter, sociopath and military dictator

Stone cold killer
Murtala Mohammed led the counter-coup of July 1966 and murdered over 300 officers of Eastern origin. His second division also supervised the Asaba massacre where over a thousand men were lined up and shot


War criminal
Murtala Mohammed commited several war crimes during the war. One of this was a standing order he made that all prisoners of war captured by his the second division he commanded should be executed. General Isola Williams and General Akinrinade, who both served under Murtala, would later confirm this


Terrorist

Murtala Mohammed supervised the Asaba massacre, the counter coup massacre. The resultant effect of his ethnic based coup was that pogroms erupted all over the North and led to deaths of over 50,000 Igbos. On the whole, when one adds all the people who died directly or indirectly at Murtalas hands, it would be close to 100,000 people

its not trash. Kaduna murdered and monitor the killings of peope wic escalated into civil war that resulted to the death of millions. If murtala is a murder then why is kaduna a hero.. You cant justify an unlawful killing and condemn another.

Late General Ramat Murtala Muhammed is a insatiable bloodshedder and rebellious man who paradoxically request unalloyed obedience from subordinates.

His ignoble role in coordinating the senseless killings of Igbo soldiers @ Ikeja Military Cantoment Lagos and more dastard involvement in the organized killings of civilians in Benin City & esp.the infamous "Asaba Massacre" during the civil war will remain indelible.

How Nigeria arrived @ honouring a coup plotter, killer and a despicable character of Murtala's like with our national monuments remains one of paradox of human existence. sad

As for Murtala, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari, late Brigadier Adekunle Benjamin, Col.Ibrahim Taiwo, Major Shittu Alao and other known/unknown killers that shed innocent blood during the war, you will all continue to roast in hell.Lt.Gen.TY Danjuma & Gen.Gowon all have had their home states harvest of deaths already.

Unfortunately, Murtala graced our national life with the blaze of the gun and also exited the scene in a hail of bullets.So there is absolutely nothing to remember about this satan incarnate.

I saw one bloke up there comparing kaduna nzego and murtala Mohammed, and my question is did kaduna Nzego kill innocent and defenseless civilians, Nzeogwu went after corrupt officials and military officers.. so no basis of comparison

What the face of this idiot is doing on our #20 note I don't know. A jihadist to the core. For three days this son of a scum rounded off Igbo officers including cooks,drivers,gardeners with his fellow blood thirsty jihadist and murdered the in cold blood. He kick started the pogrom that consumed 30,000 Easterners yet he is a national hero. Nigeria is sitting on a time bomb. Nigeria as a country should cone out boldly like South Africa to do a comprehensive national reconciliation now the main actors are still here.
