Buhari’s Order To Shoot Ballot-box Snatchers, Invitation To Anarchy by dapelua(m): 9:26am On Feb 21, 2019
A former member of the House of Representatives candidate in Delta state has conddnemned the recent directive given by President Buhari on snatching of ballot boxes - Kennedy Eyube said such directives could lead to war or anarchy in Nigeria
- According to Eyube, it is undemocratic for a president of a country to order the military to kill the people he swore to defend
A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kennedy Eyube, has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari's directive to security agencies over the snatching of ballot boxes.
Eyube, a former member of the House of Representatives candidate for Okpe Sapele Uvwie Federal Constituency under the All Progress Congress (APC) said, the order to shoot at ballot box snatchers is an invitation to anarchy.
The Nation reports that Eyube while addressing journalists in Warri warned that the president's order may also lead to war in Nigeria. He said Nigeria has laws stipulated in the Constitution to deal with electoral offenders as he pondered why a president of a country should order the military to kill the people he swore to defend.
Describing the directive as a disgrace to the nation's democracy, Eyube called on President Buhari to withdraw the order while urging security personnel to ignore such directive in the interest of democracy.
“Nigerians are tired of Buhari Government because there is too much killings. He knows they will not vote for him. That is reason for all these. If not how can a president want to kill his own people?” Eyube queried.
“During the PDP administration a bag of rice was N8,000 and a litre of fuel was N87 naira. But today, under the APC government a bag of rice is about N25,000 and a litre of fuel is N145 naira. So Nigerians are tired of the APC government. They want to change the change by 23 March 2019 by voting out the APC,” Eyube said.
Commending the Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on infrastructural development in the state, Eyube said the governor has turned the state into a ‘Construction Site,’.
“If you are going to Asaba from Ughelli you will see the massive works going on. So I don’t see any other candidate other than Okowa.
“For this reason and other reasons Okpe Local Government is 100% in support PDP and the people are going to give Governor Okowa and PDP 5/5 in the forthcoming general elections," he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the federal government has declared Friday,
February 22 as public to enable Nigerians prepare for the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, February 23. The federal government through the ministry of interior declared the holiday on Wednesday, February 20.
It however excluded bankers and those providing essential services from the holiday.
