The 36secs clips , which shows the highly experienced chief officer with his eyes closed and his head down, surfaced online just days after China Airlines pilots ended a seven-day strike over issues including pilot fatigue and long working hours. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9RzdOcdikQ?t=2 The chief pilot is said to be the airline’s most senior Boeing 747 pilot, and mainly flies the Tokyo, Okinawa, Seoul and Hong Kong routes.He is also an instructor in charge of simulations at the China Airlines Flight Training Center. China Airlines ,the national carrier of Taiwan,said the pilot has received adequate punishment.The airline also suggested the co-pilot who filmed and released the video may also be punished for choosing to record the clip instead of waking his senior officer up. Should not a problem. Once you log the destination and set the GPS, then the Plane with proceed on auto-pilot. I am sure it is on Drone mode. 1 Like |

Auto pilot can fix all that... You can't possibly sleep for 3 hours straight in that condition considering the altitude. Moreover he must have slept because he knows his co-pilot is there |

No issue here really. If only you know how many times pilots sleep on duty. Moreover the plane would be on autopilot and the first officer would take care of any issues while the captain naps 1 Like |
