Bassey Inyang in Calabar The results of last Saturday’s presidential election as obtained in Cross River State have started trickling in, indicating that the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, is in comfortable lead in 9 of the 18 Local Government Areas of the state. The results indicate that Atiku has defeated his closest rival, President Muhammadu Buhari in all the local government areas released so far from the state’s three senatorial districts. From the results of the nine local government areas being expected, that of Etung local government area would be known when the presidential , and National Assembly elections are held on a new date to be announced by the INEC. The February 23 elections were cancelled in Etung due to violence, and large scale electoral irregularities perpetrated by partisan thugs. A breakdown of the polls scored by both candidates of the APC and PDP are as follows. Ogoja LGA: APC-5,541; PDP-22,963. The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Alh Atiku Abubakar is enjoying a marginal lead in the presidential race in Taraba State. The PDP is currently leading in seven out of the thirteen local governments so far declared with a total of 302,471 as against 284,333 of the All Progressives Congress APC. Also the senatorial candidate of the PDP Senator Emmanuel Bwacha has won the Southern Taraba senatorial seat after clinching 96,352 votes, beating the candidates APC and APGA who got 51,971 and 47,093 respectively. The collation for the Northern and Central zones is still ongoing at the time of this report while the presidential election result is being awaited in the three remaining local governments in the state.
