Reach Out To Atiku Now To Move Nigeria Forward, Barr. Ubani Urges Buhari by Metrixnews: 11:51am On Feb 28, 2019
A former Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja branch Barr. Monday Ubani has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately reach out to his main challenger in the just concluded presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to form part of his government and move Nigeria forward.

While arguing that there is nothing wrong in incorporating the opposition member into a government, Barr. Ubani insisted that it is a means to making the government succeed reduce violence, foster peace and unity among the supporters of both camps. He expressed dissatisfaction with the culture of Nigerian politicians whom he accused of not wanting to bring members of opposition parties to move the country forward.

“There is issue of leaders when they come in, they don’t want others to come near and there is so much access to treasury. They get so much and they don’t want others to come in. I want a situation where if someone comes into political office, he wants others too to come in. That has always been the problem” he said.

He called on lawmakers to provide a legislative framework for opposition members to be involved in the process of governance by the ruling party in order to move the country forward.

He said the president has many challenges which include the economy, fight against corruption and foreign direct investment, agriculture and others to deal with. He said if the opposition is allowed to come on board and lend their support, the county will move forward.

The attorney said a holistic approach to the fight against corruption will be a veritable structure for the campaign to record success. “Governors have unhindered access to security vote, issue of award of contracts, there is no structure in place. Since we know how they steal, we must nip it in the bud. We must not allow this issue of governors when they come in decide what they want” he said.

He advocated that the institutions of the government should be made stronger to perform better. He accused state Houses of Assembly of failing to checkmate the governors, insisting that unhindered access granted to the governors by failure of state Houses of Assembly has fueled the desire to remain in power at all cost. “That’s what goes on everywhere. There is so much aggression. There is so much agitation to be in power. When they come in, it’s not they’re coming for performance. They’re coming to become multi billionaire at the end of the day. So the issue of public service is not there” he said.
