One of the most important Islamic injunctions is obedience (with goodness) to constituted authority and the leaders in the society.
The Islamic scholars said it is compulsory to obey and follow leaders and constituted authority as long as they do not command us to disobey Allah and His noble Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). However, they added, there is no obedience to leaders and constituted authority when they command their followers to disobey Allah and His Prophet, Muhammad (pbuh).
.
This is in line with what Allah says in the Qur’an chapter 4:59, “O ye who have believed, obey Allah and obey His Messenger and the people of authority amongst you. And if you disagree over anything, return the matter to Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad, pbuh) if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.”
.
And it is also in line with the Prophet (pbuh) said: “Whoever obeys me, has indeed obeyed Allah; whoever disobeys me, has indeed disobeyed Allah; whoever obeys the leader, has indeed obeyed me; whoever disobeys the leader, has indeed disobeyed me”. (Bukhari and Muslim).
He (pbuh) also said: “Hear and obey, even if a black, ugly, small-headed black slave is made your leader”. (Bukhari and Muslim).
He (pbuh) further said: “Hear and obey even if you are beaten (unjustly) and your wealth is wrongly confiscated (by the leader) still obey him.” (Muslim and Abu Dawud).
.
Because of this, the righteous Muslim predecessors have all agreed that obedience to the rulers is compulsory. They also agreed that it is haram to disobey them, take up arms against them, to undermine their government by publicly demonstrating against their leadership and incite the public against them in whatever method.
Conversely, supplicating for their goodness, their uprightness and guidance is encouraged by Islam, and this was practised by the pious predecessors in Islam.
.
Imam Al-Fudhayl Ibn ‘Iyadh (RA) said: “If I have a good prayer (that will be accepted by Allah), I will make it for the leader. We have been commanded to pray for them with goodness and we have not been commanded to curse them even if they are transgressors and oppressors. This is because their injustice would only be on their necks (as sins) and their being upright (because of good supplications for them) will be for them and for us.” (Alwajeez fee ‘Aqeedah as-Salaf)
.
Imam Al-Hassan Al-basary (RA) also said: “Go and know, may Allah rectify your affairs, that injustice by a (tyrant) leader is a trial from Allah. And the trial from Allah can’t be removed with sword (violence); it could only be removed by prayers, repentance, regret and staying away from sins. If a trial is faced with sword (violence), it becomes stronger and harder.” (Aadabu Al-Hassan Al-basary of Ibn Al-Jawziy)
It is also said that Al-Hassan Al-basary saw a man cursing Al Hajjaj Ibn Yuusuf (who was one of the tyrant leaders in the history of Islam), and he (Al-basary) said: ‘don’t do that again! May Allah have mercy on you; it is from amongst you that he (Al Hajjaj) was brought out to be your leader. Verily we fear that if he is replaced or he dies, a leader worst than him may be appointed over you (because of your bad behaviours). (Aadabu Al-Hassan Al-basary).

Let us always remember our leaders in our supplications! And it does not matter whether it is GCON Atiku, PMB or GCFR JEG.

NB: We muslims should shun acts of tribalism as:

Jundab ibn Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

مَنْ قُتِلَ تَحْتَ رَايَةٍ عِمِّيَّةٍ يَدْعُو عَصَبِيَّةً أَوْ يَنْصُرُ عَصَبِيَّةً فَقِتْلَةٌ جَاهِلِيَّةٌ

Whoever is killed under the banner of blind following, who calls to tribalism or supports tribalism, then he has died upon ignorance.

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

إِنَّ أَعْظَمَ النَّاسِ فِرْيَةً لَرَجُلٌ هَاجَى رَجُلًا فَهَجَا الْقَبِيلَةَ بِأَسْرِهَا

Verily, the greatest liar among people is a man who insults another man by disparaging the entire tribe.

In another narration, the Prophet said:

وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعِينُ قَوْمَهُ عَلَى غَيْرِ الْحَقِّ كَمَثَلِ بَعِيرٍ رُدِّيَ فِي بِئْرٍ فَهُوَ يَنْزِعُ مِنْهَا بِذَنَبِهِ

The parable of the one who supports his people upon other than the truth is that of a dead camel which falls into a well and is pulled out by its tail.

Will I always answer this am I a Muslim question before commenting on an Islamic thread, is it like an oath or something and to the issue at hand I guess we should obey our constituted authorities even if they ascend to power fraudulently. We should also obey them when their decisions are not affecting our well being positively. We should also obey them when they can't perform the duties they are supposed to perform DON'T ASK QUESTIONS Just OBEY.

some people are calling us slaves just because we obeyed our leaders like Ahmadu Bello, Buhari, Tafawa Balewa, Abacha Etc Islam never allows the cursing of leaders not matter how bad they are, if you curse them you curse the Nation at large

Obviously, hadith and rulings mentioned here dont work with Kwarans. grin

Saraki was their oppressive ruler. Not only did they forced him out of power but pelted him with stones and verbal abuses. Everything they did to him contradicts what is written here. This goes to show you that the idea of obeying ruler even if he oppresses and takes your belonging, you should still obey him for as long as he doesn't tell you to disobey God, is not practical. Saraki openly offers salat and did not tell anyone to disobey God, yet you kicked him out. Are kwarans right or wrong?.

This thing you posted which include pretty much opinions of people including hadith in question need critical reviews. Things are not always as they appear to be. In my opinion, the hadith is valid but at the same time it is either must be understood in proper context or it is not universal or some rulers in history have tampered with it.

Those who take this hadith hook line and sinker in this thread would need to support those Alfas who supported Saraki bcus those alfas did not want protests against him and they wanted Saraki to continue his oppressive rule. So let me test your hypocrisy. Those Alfas who backed Saraki notably, two of them are not in tandem with op's manhaj and jabata' son in this thread. So do you support those Alfas?. Let me remind you that those Alfas's actions were in line with this hadith and opinions vested in this thread. So do you agree with them?

Now, as far as i am concerned, Kwarans have spoken and their actions are in line with Quran and sunnah as well. Quran speaks

Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. Q13:11

Also in the last khutba of nabi(saw) he said, ".......nothing belongs to a muslim which belongs to fellow muslims unless it is given freely..."

Kwaran govt (governor, senators and senate prez) collected money from federal govt in the name of the people of the state but did little or nothing for them. This is looting public funds. This contradicts what the hajj sermon says. Kwara state will be 52 yrs old this May but its people are getting poorer and poorer. Fifty two(52) years was too long not to rise against the rulers. Islam has zero tolerance for oppression. So this hadith need to be understood differently instead interpreting it to mean "there is no protest or demonstration in islam". There is. So this hadith could either mean to try to restrict unwarranted rebellion against ruler or frown upon destruction of lives and properties instead of saying there is no protest in islam. It is easy to copy and post hadith but it is hard to understand when it comes to practical.

Kwarans have set a pace. They have sent clear message to incoming governor and senators that they will no longer tolerate nonsense. People are suffering and calling out for help from their tyrannical rulers over them and we have some people talking about obeying them even if they beat you and take your things?. I believe the hadith is tampered with by oppressive rulers in history to suit their whims bcus it obviously doesn't work with Kwarans and Palestinians. And the people who called themselves Alhusunnah in Nigeria who supported this hadith are somehow happy that Saraki got kicked out and at the same time they mocked those Alfas who supported and gave saraki confidence to further his nonsensical loot.

Hypocrisy stinks.

Why did they not agree with those Alfas who supported Saraki?. Those are Alfas they considered "alhubida" yet they consciously or unconsciously followed this hadith. In my opinion, the hadith is restricting violent approach to rulers and avoiding destruction of lives and properties. The hadith is not disallowing demonstrations or protest against rulers. This is nonsense. So Kwarans changed their own condition bcuz they are tired of these unpatriotic governments over them. And if this incoming governor and senator don't perform to their expectations or at least improve standard of living of the people, it is only a matter of time before they kick them in the butt.

But cursing and destroying properties are never allowed. That's immoral anyways. Those who destroy properties simply need to be persecuted. The idea of "pray for them" without action is futile. Thats like praying to get a job but you sit on a couch playing video games everyday and you want to get a job at the same time?. Thats a failed mission.
