What Does A Processor Do In A Smartphone And What Is It? by Kalapizim(m): 1:38pm On Mar 04, 2019
the world of computing – desktop, laptop, mobile and others – a processor can be said to be like the ‘engine of a car’ , which basically runs the whole scene for the device in question. The more powerful the processor of your smartphone or PC , the faster it performs and the more number of tasks it can carry out simultaneously.

A processor is like the CPU of the computer. A processor is responsible for executing what you want your smartphone to do. It takes in the input from you converts them into electronic signals and gives the desired output.

On a smartphone, you've got similar components, as well as other sub-processors, but they're integrated onto a single chipset, referred to as System-on-a-Chip (SoC), since there isn't room to have different chipsets with the battery taking up so much space. So technically, when we talk about processors, we're really talking about the SoC, but for pretty obvious reasons.
A key component of the SoC is the CPU. Most companies use a CPU based a design from a company called ARM, and it handles most things you experience on your smartphone, from running the OS to touch-screen functions. When people talk about whether a phone has an 800MHz processor or a 1GHz processor, they're referring to the speed of the CPU. Additionally, single-core or dual-core refers to the number of CPU cores.

Another element of the SoC is the GPU. The GPU processes graphical and visual data, so it's responsible for such things as rendering Web pages and gameplay. Having a dedicated GPU is much more efficient than letting the CPU handle it, since it allows for lower power consumption while offering such benefits as better image processing and anti-aliasing and geometric realism. The better the GPU, the better experience you'll have viewing complex Web sites and 3D video games.

Finally, the SoC incorporates a number of other sub-processors, such as video encoders and decoders, camera operation, and audio playback, so your smartphone can perform such tasks. Some companies also incorporate a phone's modem (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G/4G, etc.) into the SoC, while others keep them separate

TYPES OF PROCESSOR

single-core processor has only one actual central processing unit (CPU) that is built on one single component called a processor , or a chip .

A dual-core processor is a single computing component , or in other words a single computer chip only , but with twoindependent central processing units ( CPU’s ) in one . It essentially looks similar to the single core one only , but it just has 2 CPU’s rather than just one .

Similarly , a quad-core processor is a single computing component , a single computer chip with four independent actual central processing units ( CPU’s ) .

And an octa-core processor is a single computing component , or a single computer chip , with eight independent actual central processing units ( CPU’s ).

There are also smartphones that come with a 6 core processor , also known as hexa-core and also 10 cores , also known as deca-core .

The more cores a processor has, the more efficiently and cooler it actually runs. This is because with multiple cores, different tasks on your PC or phone are distributed among the cores. Multiple core processors can also help cut down on the amount of battery consumed by your device and also help your phone or PC run more smoothly and handle heavier tasks with relative ease .

Multiple cores are the most helpful when you need to do multiple things or tasks , at the same time on your phone or PC. This is called multitasking. In multiple core processors, each core is independent of the other mostly . During light usage , only one core may run at a time to handle the normal light usage load , and then when you switch to heavier usage, more cores kick in to help handle the load .

The functions are obviously important
