The Yobe State government plans to build 31 standard public toilets worth more than N200 million in the 17 council areas, before the end of the year. The Commissioner for Environment, Wakil Sarki, stated in Damaturu on Monday that the toilets were part of efforts to arrest open defecation. Mr Sarki said that the three-block convenience would be built in Damaturu, Potiskum, Gashua, Fika, Nguru and Buni-Yadi. He added that every motor park would have five toilets and three bathrooms. He also said that the toilet project would be executed on a Public Private Partnership arrangement with some interested organisations from the state and Abuja. He noted that “already, a N24-million agreement has been signed with a local company last week for the construction of three toilets at some Sunday markets.” The toilets will be managed on a commercial basis by the partnering companies, “with each user paying a small amount for maintenance and provision of some materials”.

An average cost of 8mollion naira per toilet

What are the essence of the toilets when there is no water to run them?. One per council? Are you kidding me? Of what use is one toilet per to about 2000 people per council?
