EMEKA’S CALL TO GLORY

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) yesterday expressed shock and sadness at the sudden death of ace sports journalist, Mr Emeka Enechi. In a letter of condolence to the widow of Enechi, Mrs Uju Enechi, which he personally signed, the Governor said the death of Mr Enechi at this time becomes more painful in more ways than one, coming shortly after the passage of his aged father.
Governor Fashola however noted that even amidst the grief engendered by the death of Emeka, the thought of his accomplishments and the impact he made in so short a period of life as a thoroughbred professional and a family man should be a source of consolation.

He prayed to God Almighty to grant the departed’s soul sweet repose and imbue the widow and the entire sporting family the fortitude to bear the sad loss. Mr Emeka Enechi, until his death the Editor of SportsDay Newspaper, passed on, on Sunday in a hospital in Asaba, Delta State, following injuries sustained in a car crash penultimate week.

He was a former Sports Editor of THISDAY and later to become variously, a Deputy Editor at Glitterati, one of the publications of the newspaper, and Deputy Editor, Sports, in the Sunday Newspaper. He has also led the Lagos State branch of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) as chairman until he handed over to the current executive about a year ago.

Average life span in nigeria is 45years with alot dangers abound for survival as a result of rogue government and epic irresponsibilities in the country.

These things come back to you, korokoro.

Emeka was a perfect gentle man, always smiling ready to always give a helping hand to the needy. I now believe in the saying that good people never last. Goodnight Emeka, Bro Johnny. You will forever have a place in my heart for the good moments we shared. May your soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
