To think that INEC spent 245 Billion Naira for this sham elections is nauseating. Most of us want a change from the paper ballot, but we don't know what we want to use to replace it.

Here's my take....
What INEC needs is a new website just for voting, the whole 36 states in Nigeria as well as local government will appear on the site.

Your PVC carries a VIN number which should already be in the database of INEC, so that once these number is inputted into the site as well as a one time pin number provided by INEC, it will automatically be recognized and a candidate will be able to cast his/her vote online.

During my SSCE days, WAEC use to have a scratch card which use to be valid for usage for 5 times.....INEC can do better by providing a pin which can only be used ONCE.

Voting should be for a week..... Monday 8am to Saturday, site closes for voting 3pm Saturday whereby people can stay in the comfort of their homes, log on to INECs portal and cast their ballot without any stress...

Then INEC Chairman conducts a press conference at 4pm to read all the results from the 36 states. This way, there will be no need for politicians to share money, all campaign will be issue based.

What INEC needs are software designers.
For the front end i.e this will include the pictures of each candidate along side their party logo as well as a poll and below it will signify the number of people who has voted..... once you vote, the number of people voted will increase and the poll will be affected either by increasing or staying stagnant.

For the back end, the developers will just take whatever was designed from the front 'enders' and make it happen.

Once you log on and vote on the portal, the vote will automatically go to where you registered your PVC, so for example if you registered in Akwa Ibom, but you're living in PH, when you log on and vote, your vote will be going to the local government you registered in Akwa Ibom and not PH where you currently reside.

INEC won't spend more than 50 million Naira in getting a team of 20 programmers, 10 front end and 10 back end to get this job done (I'm available if they need me for back end). Also the only place they may spend money is in generating pin number for the millions of voters nationwide. But a rough estimate of 1 billion Naira is ok and a bit generous for the exercise, rather than the 245billion they budgeted for rubbish.

A lot of innocent lives has been lost to this paper ballot, and anyone that still wants this to continue doesn't mean well for the country.

In nigeria people who vote decide nothing rather people who count the vote (the family of the ruling party) decide who win even when the person is dumb

That's why we have to change from paper ballot to online voting whereby everyone's vote counts.

Hackers, hackers, hackers! You cannot guarantee that election results will not be intercepted by hackers. It's a no-no!

Absolutely not. Electronic voting, yes that will come in time. But it must never be online.

You will still need to go out and vote! Reality is different to twitter, snapchat, instagram, and facebook etc.

it can be electronic voting in the polling Unit instead of the ballot paper.

But you still bank, use ATM cards?
We should start off the revolution, the death is just too much, electronic voting will not only save us cost but life too, we could vote online just like our bvn number.
Pls, we must push for it

A good idea.

But INEC can improved on current processes by transmitting results from polling units.

After counting, collated results or pictures of result sheets should be snapped by INEC representative and forwarded to the collation centres with their smart phones via email or a dedicated platform for timely tabulation.

Hard copies of results will be a backup to verify those transmitted electronically earlier. This idea of waiting for results for hours and days only gives rooms for manipulation by vested interests.

Government and politicians knows what to do but purposely decided not to cos of their selfishness in perpetuating themselves in power through rigging.

And that's the major reason Buhari refused to sign the amended electoral bill into law.

Server side to side encryption will make it impossible for hackers to gain access to the file even if it's intercepted. A strong encryption key could take 100 million quadrillion years to break so its practically impossible. The problem is the government will never do it! Cause that will be the end of rigging results in this country.

Why not online? That's the only way this ballot snatching and rigging can stop. There should be electronic voting centers where people who don't know how to use a computer go to vote for their choice, then the file storing the vote will be encrypted and sent to a secure server abroad. The server now checkes for the encryption key and compares it with the encryption key of the voting center where the vote was made before the file will be decrypted and stored. So even if somehow, an attempt is made to send votes to the server from a compromised computer the encryption key won't add up and the server will reject the file and block the Ip from sending to it anymore.

There should be a portal where anyone who wishes to check if their vote counted can simply open up their mobile phone or computer, visit the website and type in their registration number and it will bring up your full details including the time you voted, the center and the candidate you voted.

This is practically possible and this is how a 200 billion naira election should be.

Don't mind them, the technology is readily available and relatively cheap! But will they do it? Never!

I am even developing online voting system but the highest number of voters are the illiterates and rural dwellers which is going to be a great challenge because many of them don't have knowledge of computer and they are mostly used by the politicians to manipulate their winning..... To be candid online voting can't work in Nigeria

The best hackers should be busy hacking bitcoin,
There should enough redundancy, backup servicer in sync. The can't hack all the servers at the same time, a lot can be done for its security. All it takes is sincerity of purpose, we can't continue like this, any day this is dine, we will start to produce quality leaders and not hooligans.

A common center can be designated for them and it not difficult to identify a party logo and press a button

I totally agree with you that the current system is not working and we need a change. But please understand that even the banking system has flaws. We have seen the rise of yahoo boys hacking into banks and requesting for domiciliary access for transfers. However it doesn't mean that it cannot work in Nigeria but if there is no backdoor to manipulate the system, our government will not even pay attention to it.

Inec will still maintain the current polling units with electonic voting devices for everyone that want aided voting especially the rural area.

But i suggest 3 days voting period, in 3 days everyone interested to vote would have voted, it will also give inec time to sort out any downtime with their servers and network that maybe arise.

I understand what you're saying but my main concern is people going out to vote, there will still be intimidation by hoodlums and sometimes security operatives..... You can't compare American electronic ballot to that of Nigeria.... Americans don't intimidate their fellow citizens at the polling unit and even if they do which is impossible, they have a good policing force that can bring the culprit to justice.... The same can't be said about Nigeria.....That's why I opted for this process of voting online and in the comfort of our homes because nobody will come and harass you inside your house.

For those talking about hackers or crackers.... Do you think this wouldn't also be in consideration? hacking isn't that easy.... I bet you, it will be very difficult to hack into the site after it has been done, because we'll have cyber security experts.... There is no delicate website that doesn't have security experts protecting their database.

To be frank this is the only method I can think of that would be beneficial to Nigerians, only if the government or the next INEC chairman will allow it.

The most important thing is our seriousness but we have never been serious and money control Nigeria and Nigerians so there will be saboteurs.

Do we have a system to discourage and check sabotage

This nation is not serious but thanGod people are rising to the occasion now unlike before Na small small !!
