Open Letter to Oyo Governor Elect Engr. Seyi Makinde

Dear Governor Elect,
Engr. Seyi Makinde of Oyo state.

Congratulations on the just concluded election and for the massive acceptance by the good people of Oyo state. You've showed yourself an Omoluabi by your actions and reactions during your previous failed attempts for the electoral position. We hope you will prove us right that our decision to massively elect you this time around is the best.

As a governor of pace setter state, we will like you to lead with a pace setter mindset and lift Oyo state from the slumbering status it has been over the years to the active pace setter figure it used to be.

Ibadan and Oyo state at large is the political capital of the South West Nigeria (also capital for Yoruba states in the north central and those in the south south), so you are not only governor of Oyo state but in all ways, you are also the President of the Yoruba Nation and so is part of  reason I write to you.

As a governor, you are a father of everybody, including people of the opposition party and those who do not cast their vote for you in the just concluded election. You are father of all tribes including the non Yoruba people of Oyo state. So donot discriminate by any mean.

Unlike we have in the present federal government, suround yourself with experts, people with good positive track records and selfless, not with sycophants, thiefs and liars who does not understand what it mean to hold an electoral position. They still play politics while in power and have not stop to blame previous administration for the same issue they are elected to effect a change upon (their under-performance and lack of direction and initiative).

For the good people of Oyo state, your continous education is important, be a reader, have a reading plan, read books about everything and anything. I will personally recomend that you read about leadership, civilisation and "the hows" of developments of the developed nations of the world.

Organise specific group of well rounded think thank, comprising of economic experts and economic stakeholders to perform researches and develop reports and recommendations on how Oyo state can best utilize it present resources and human power. Let them do "SWOT Analysis" for Oyo state to determine and analyse the economic strength, weaknesness, opportunity and threat and give recomendations on how we can best optimise our strenght and opportunities, and how we can turn our economic weakness and threat into an advantage.

Donot rely on federal government monthly allocation but instead, find other better means of generating income for the state so that anything coming from the fedral government will be stipends and a plus compare to what the state can be able to generate.

Please work closely with the members of Oyo house of assembly to make specific state laws that reflect and address all the current needs and sociocultural challenges in the state. Constitute your aids and cabinet with many very young people. Also allow for cordinated autonomy of Local governments and do not be too far away from the general public.

It is possible to pay workers on the 25th of every month, please try and put this into place.

Lautech my alma mater needs immediate attention as structures: College of Medicine and the Lautech Teaching Hospital, built by government of Alao Akala - although currently in use - are still umcopleted and abandoned since 2011 when he lost his re-elction bid. The buildings are highly dangerous for students and member of staffs working in the institution.

Their is need for immediate review of academic curriculum of the institution and her scheme of works to reflect "Technology", "applied science", "experimentation", "researches" and not the much of the theory-focus academic activities of the institution . Please, help find better lasting solution to the incessant strike in the institution.

In the same vein, the new Technical University in Oyo state need immediate review of tuition and other fees to enable for children of (the poorly paid) civil servants and common men to benefit from. Strick regulation of activities need be done to ensure that academic activities are strictly practical and experimental focused; their curriculum and scheme of works.

Please as much as possible sir, let generate our own Hydroelectric power through the many water bodies in Oyo state. Constant power supply is paramount for any economic development. Also, as possible as you can, please lobby to ensure the transformation of the Ibadan Alakia federal Airport into an International Airport.

Please, also work on construction of dams for agricultural irrigation.

Please put into place farmers subsidy and agric loan program. I wasted about 30,000 part of my NYSC savings trying to acquire a Federal govenment loan to cultivate a 2 hectre of land I once acquired but later discover that the money was been diverted.

Provision of special loan for farmers, monitoring for young people with farming interest and proper electrification of rural areas and farm settlements will prevent the "city rush" and ensure more young, able and educated people remain in villages and farm settlements.

Please organise entrepreneuship programs for young people with passion for starting a business, who have written a feasible business plan. Let it model as possible the federal government's failed YouWin Connect Program or the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneuship Program and provide aspiring entrepreneurs and new businesses access to loan, grants and equity with mentorship and monitoring by government agents.

Please build new (and renovate old) skill accusition centers where people can register for free and learn skills such as carpentary, furniture making, plumbing, tilling, computer programming and other computing skills, computer hardware repair, cloth making, hair dressing, barbing, event planning, catering, driving kills, farming and agro-product processing, photography, auto mechanic, weathering and iron works e.t.c

If possible, two or three of these centers should be located in each local government of the state as this will enable people who could not afford formal education to acquire economic skills and make a living with, thereby eradicating poverty.

Please, work on the regulation of activities of many of the microfinance banks, concerning their deadly interest rate on loans given to traders. Please, closely work with bank of industry, bank of agriculture and other banks to ensure trader and farmer's access to low interest loans and easy method of payment sir.

And lastly on security, donot not only send thugs away from our streets, but also create special amnesty programs that ensure they are trained, re-oriented and as much as possible become absorbed into the Nigeria Army. If these thugs can be faithful and ready to give up their life in fight to defend their allies and kingpin with little or no cash payment, they will do much more with proper orientation and be abe to live better life as millitary officers.

Once again, congratulations. May you be able to leave great legacies that unborn generations will alway remember you for, more than we always talk aout Awolowo's Legacy today.

Yours Faithfully,
Samuel from Ibadan.
