Olu317: Lol...your make me laff lets assume oba belongs to the yorubas it was never used to represent kingship untill recently the yorubas under the edi territory took upin the name oba to respresent kings this alone will tell you oba doesn't belong to yorubas but the word oba got there through conquest .... Olo kun its not “olu kun" dont forge meaning to it my friend again if olu is lord in yoruba why not use olu instead of oba in adressing kings it just shows the yoruba took the name oba from edo through conquest the same way we call our monarchs “kings" through british conquest and the same way illorin call thier monarchs emir and not the original yoruba title .for the record omo n' ba means a child that shine it was a form of praise giving to him It is “osanobua" not orisha" benin have no word like orisha that it will even think to derive the word from it ... I want to ask you a question it is well known benin conqured and rule over ekiti, ondo,Lagos and the fulani over kwarra and illorin now tell me who will pass thier culture to each other. is it the conquered or conquerer? Because i am not understanding you, orimiyan came to benin he didnt even enter the palace because he was too fearful to fight and he left. so i still wonder how you think that man brought all this gods to benin it is only reasonable to say this small benin people spread the gods to the yorubas through war it is well noted in the picture above .... My friend if you cant tell me how this gods entered benin and what are edo worshippers doing in those pictures then shut up it becoming annoying arguing emptinessely with you. i could easily do better than what youre doing now by bring tales and cunning words to have meaning to suit my purpose but there is no need to a tribe that cant even tell where oduduwa came from want to claim ownership to history don't make me laff please 1 Like |

gregyboy:Continue to make mockery of yourself in the eyes of the world. It is only unstudied you can deceive with your uncountable lie. The etymology of this word olokun is of Yoruba origin and it is hers and not borrowed from your kingdom, which was under Yoruba flag through Oranmiyan. The phonology of th word and many other borrowed by Bini from yoruba is self explanatory. Contrary to your thought, Omo n'Oba n'Edo was what your king was called in the ancient time, so dont laugh to your own detriment. And the word O-BA is simply; 'he reign over' or ontop or above all. So,there are different word that Yoruba ancestors coined to fit to mean same thing(synonym). Since you are struggling with the truth, let me break it down for you . O: he Bá: reign over, above, ontop, father that's looked upto as authority over all things. It is even part of epithet of all Yoruba Kings. Olu-Olo:it is a stand alone word for master, lord, king and be used as prefix or suffix in Yoruba language, which is the reason you people are ignorant of the fact e.g olo okun( lord/god of the sea) Olu itsekiri or Olu warri,Olu Ibadan, even oba bini is even ‘olu'. Furthermore, the headquarter of Olokun festival is ILEIFE in OSUN STATE, which proof the origin of olokun is from Yoruba land. Infact,Professor Frobenuis ,an ethnologist, saw the head of ori olokun and other artifacts of Yoruba ancestors and admired during his exploration in ILEIFE in 1910, which made him declared certain views on yoruba people as being linked to Mediterranean origin . Perhaps, you have another version of Edos for being ignorant and don't know your own history. Kindly tell us who was the ancestor of Ogiso(sky king) ,whom you claim as the ancestor of Odudua? *modified* 4 Likes 1 Share |

Olu317: They (Benins) seem to have gotten the Olokun worship in Urhonigbe from the coastal/riverine Yoruba communities they interacted with in the form of Umale Okun/Malokun. At the mouth of the Formosa river which the Osse empties into near Ogheye, Warri North- Olokun is still the principal deity till date. |

Olu317: This picture just doubted everyfact you just stated untill you prove the picture wrong. it only shows here in other for the yorubas to fully get the presence of olokun n' urhonigbe they must dress in the benin regalia and a benin man must be in there in thier mist this can never happen in the oba palace.... I love when the Yoruba's defend thier selves in emptiness

gregyboy: You this ugly boy, you're too dumb for my liking. How many people are dressed in benin attire in that picture compared to those dressed in yoruba attire? Besides, if a bini man is there, does it mean that bini owns the god? Do you know how many countries in which olokun is being worshipped? So if a man from Trinidad or Cuba who also worships olokun is present in that picture, it also means that Cuba owns olokun? You're such a disappointment to those who wasted funds on your education. We are saying you got the worship from a source, you are saying a bini man is in the picture. Are u this cretinous? Lol. So laughable. Se ehn, people like you can never acquire knowledge, because you argue not to learn but to massage ur fragile ego. Shows you're still a kid. Bye. 2 Likes |

Modified the true religion of the yorubas is islam edo gave the yorubas the other gods |

YourNemesis:The Igodomigodo are a funny people and are revisionists. They virtually copied, everything civilization from Yoruba but refuse to be thankful. Even their language and names infiltrated with Yoruba. The route of olokun worship into Bini could be through your view but there is no iota of doubt that the olokun custodian in Bini came from IFE either directly or through migration to these places you mentioned before it got to Bini. The reason for this assertion is that, custodian and devotees introduce his/her ancestral worship to new environment if there is a perceive problems that's related to such orisha(gods). Bini need be thankful to yoruba, because they became civilized through the introduction of Oba , Ìdà-Àdà (sword), cloth making, iron cast, sculpture work etc, which their palace used as a form of strength for oppression of the Efa, Ijaw, Bantu,Nupe-Nok groups. 1 Like |

gregyboy: Yet the white men came to Yoruba land to appreciate and see the beauty of yoruba culture and they don't care what you worship in Bini, land, despite your kinsmen in Europe and noise making. Isn't obvious that you people are liars?.Millions of people who can't come will watch it online and you don't feel bad that your own olokun is venerated in Yoruba language? May be you wil claim Ifa too came from Bini . Bunch of clowns with so much falsification. 4 Likes |

Olu317: See a tribe talking about civilization... Hmm a tribe that was defeated countlessly in war ...lemme even believe your history of a man coming to introduce yoruba worship to us ..but they where many tribe before the advent of the whitemen that Yoruba's concentrated yet they dont practice olokun worship. compare to benin that the only yoruba migrant are from the northern part of edo ...it was a war when the British brought Christianity to be accepted by the Benin's they turned it down because it wasnt indegenous then why would a yoruba god be different and not turned down too?....no matter how you try to bend it .it fact that a minority tribe gave you all your indeginous worship just the way illorin was giving Islam... When orimiyan left benin he took the benin worship to yoruba nation No one can still explain what benin culture is doing in the home land of olokun they say is indigenous |

mignone: I believe all those gods are Yoruba gods which came to Benin in 19 century. Benin gods were Ogiea uwu king of death Eziza god of mighty hair They are many I forget them but don't relate to this Yoruba gods and Benin never call on Yoruba gods in their history of empire. Which trace the fact that the Yoruba gods came to Benin in 19 or 20 century |

goalernestman:I have done that in my last post you quoted. After all, oranmiyan(oranyan) isnt an Edo-igodomigodo name.Itse isnt an Edo-igodomigdo word. Omo isn't an Edo- igodomigodo name. Bini isn't an Edo- Igodimigodo name. Why would Ada be an Edo-Igodomigodo name? The foundation of Oba as the new dynasty came with all yoruba paraphernalia, which signified conquest and authority. If you are interested, kindly go verify what the Ada(sword) and you'll be told it is a symbol of authority ,which is the GLYPH of Oba of Bini over his Bini kingdom. In fact, each Prince leaving ILEIFE goes with princely-kingly paraphernalia which include Ada(sword). And after subjugation of angry people of igodomigodo which is binu-ibinu in Yoruba language, thus, sword of the Oba represent the ancestral background of Oba Bini and his symbol of authority. |

Truth on the Yoruba language as being the language of gods and nature's language, which is the reasons Yoruba named many animals after their behavioral pattern that is known according to the bow-wow theory, that all words are echoic, some grunting caveman's attempt to capture the essence of a thing by its sound. The postulation affirmed Yoruba methods used to call animals by it echoic sound. Infact,it is also applicable to all other things be it animate or inanimate. However, the mutation of yoruba didn't really changed the language but effected through alteration as a result of relocation to new environment, which is supported by, Einger Augen in the book ecology of language, who postulated that language changes as a result of migration and as being borrowed from a teacher's language . So in effect, Yoruba language didn't actually changed because the archaic language is retained in the different yorua dialects. 1 Like |
