Forensic Science has long been in existence with breathtaking discoveries accompanying its global development. Its growth has been in tandem with its diverse applications which transcends several industries and fields of study.

But the most visible application of forensic science has been in administration of justice, especially in proving the innocence or guilt of a suspect. Countries that have invested heavily on scientific innovations and technologies seem to benefit more from the utilization of forensics in strengthening their criminal justice systems.


Barring the back clashes that has trailed the misuse of forensics - mostly due to inability of stakeholders to understand its limitations, forensics has been a force for good. It has helped to exonerate several wrongfully convicted persons through techniques such as DNA Forensics and fingerprints analysis.

Yet, many countries are yet fully adopt forensic procedures and techniques into their criminal justice systems. Many factors could be responsible for that.


Even though, Nigeria is beginning to accept forensic evidence in some of its judicial procedures, an established framework to implement forensic methods at the core of its criminal and civil investigations is still lacking.


Therefore, the need to take bold steps to entrench forensics at core of every civil and criminal litigation, arises. This can only be possible when the steps highlighted below are considered:
1. A Forensic Science Accrediting/Regulation Body
2. Adequate Number of Fully Equipped Forensic Labs With Trained Personnel..
