Acting or filmmaking generally has taken a solid foundation in the Nigerian society as a good and lucrative source of income plus the celebrity status, popularity and fame that comes with it. It is a good choice as one of the things to pursue after writing your exams.

Everyone wants to be a star. Everyone wishes to appear on the screen and command admiration and all the good benefits that come with such a career. We all admire the likes of Genevieve Nnaji, Omotala, Adesua Etomi, Jim Iyke, Ramsey Noah, Alex Ekubo and so many many of them and we all or some of us want to be like them but it will be more rewarding and possible if we try to embrace the steps, (which of course, were never easy), these celebrities took to become who they are today.

The essense of this post is to bring to your notice, in case you have been wishing to be like your favourite Nollywood actor/actress or a filmmaker, the five best movie academies/schools in Nigeria.

It is not to say that you must attend a movie academy to be a movie star. No. Far from that. In fact, most of the movie stars you know never attended any. Having the talent and passion are all that matter first. And of course, the connection or opportunity to show what you got. However, to be honest, movie academies do help a lot.

However, a lot of your favorite actors/actresses went to movie academies and to some of them, those places were their breaking points. Who knows, a movie school is all you may need to get a breakthrough into stardom.

Why going to a movie school enhances your chances of hitting your breakthrough into the industry is because these schools are owned and managed by some of your favorite actors/actresses and filmmakers who you may never know and who are behind those your favorite movies you watch on CDs, Cinemas, ROK or African Magic.

So, going to these schools will give you a better opportunity to be trained and discovered by these actors/actresses/filmmakers and in turn have an opportunity to feature in their movies. And that is all you need as a starting point – getting movie roles.

So while you wait for your WAEC result, JAMB result, admission status, NYSC whatever, etc, and while you still have some money to spare, and you are passionate about acting, then you can dedicate just three months into enhancing and improving your acting and filmmaking skills and desires as your luck can be from such academies. After all, no knowledge is a waste and acting and filmmaking is way more complicated than you may think from the comfort of your home.

Here is a list of and little information into the 5 best movie schools in Nigeria. However, these are not 100% the best as there are a lot more of them you may know and are closer to your location. But we can assure you, these five have reasons why we think they are the best.

PEFTI Film Institute
Founded by the maker and owner of the very popular Super Story, a TV series, Wale Adenuga. It is located in Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos. This popular and standard movie school offers courses in acting, music studio production, scriptwriting, presentation, choreography and photography. Feel free to check out their Facebook page and get in touch with them at https://www.facebook.com/pefti/

Royal Arts Academy
I have personally made enquiries about this school and their tuition fees are around 100k or more depending on whether you will live in the school or not. It has raised many stars and produced many blockbuster movies.

The school was established in 2010 in Lagos by Emem Isong. The school offers courses in various aspects of the film industry, emphasising on acting, directing, producing, scriptwriting, editing, children’s theater and more.

You can check out their website on Google or contact them via royalartsacademy@gmail.com or message them on Facebook via https://www.facebook.com/RoyalArtsAcademy/
