A heat wave is a period of excessively hot weather, which may be accompanied by high humidity, especially in oceanic climate countries. While definitions vary, a heat wave is usually measured relative to the usual weather in the area and relative to normal temperatures for the season.

A heat wave occurs when a system of high atmospheric pressure moves into an area. In such a high-pressure system, air from upper levels of our atmosphere is pulled toward the ground, where it becomes compressed and increases in temperature. ... The high-pressure inhibits winds, making them faint-to-nonexistent.

Recently in many parts of Nigeria, we have seen abnormal hot conditions, places like Abuja, Kwara, Benue and most of the North East states.

How to survive the Heat wave in Nigeria

1) Drink more water to keep hydrated

2) Avoid alcoholic drinks

3) Eat lots of fresh fruits

4) Try stay indoors between 12noon-4pm

5) Take cold baths in the afternoon &/or before going to bed
