Another Igbo denigrating thread nutured to grow traffic.

You lots are learners. Reasonable Igbos should not engage the OP and his cohorts. There was a time NL was very vital in debunking Igbophobic propaganda like the one this OP is propagating, but that's not the case now.
There is facebook and other forums for that.

Don't feed the troll. Every point the OP raised had been well debunked pm on this forum in the past, if as an Igbo you feel need to do same, then quote this post on social media, and then go about making a strong rebuttal, after which you can tag friends and circulate. Chikena.

I repeat, don't feed the trolls, let them starve.

Dimkas coup killed the president and a Governor, Gowons coup killed a president and the Governor of Western Region.

Now compare that to January 1966 coup that killed a Prime minister, and 2 Premiers, several military heads and ministers
And coincidentally all the Ibos in power, were hosting foreign guests, on vacation or just forgotten

Prof. Ben Nwabueze was the man who drafted
the constitution that took away powers from
regions and handed it to the central govt
because his brother Aguiyi Ironsi was the Head
of State. Today, he is shouting restructuring,
forgetting that it was himself who structured the
current arrangement. We won’t forget. Let those
who have ears, hear.

Let them go and soak Atiku in more tears and mucus

Go and read up on Nigerian history. The declaration had nothing to do with the coup, it had everything to do with Gowons refusal to honour the Aburi agreement he signed in Ghana

If those came after Ironsi did worse than he did then Ironsi should be praised for being the best of a bad bunch

Compare Ironsi to Gowon:

Ironsi kept the 4 Regions he inherited, Gowon came in and abolished the 4 Regions and created 12 states. Other Military leaders continued Gowons "state creation" and we have 36 states today.

Ironsi maintained resource control/and fiscal responsibility for the 4 Regions. Each Region kept 50% of what they produced, Gowon came in and scrapped resource control and changed the revenue sharing formular. Today, states are begging for 13% when it was 50% under Ironsi

What is funny about the whole thing is that the Northerners said one of the biggest reasons for removing Ironsi was the unification decree, they came in and enacted decrees that were far worse than Ironsi's unification decree. The Northerners and their Yoruba cohorts have done far worse than Igbos or Ironsi ever did and have lost the moral right to criticise Igbos

Story.

Ironsi planted the "power grubbing" seed for selfish reasons...the North responded with their own upgrade! Whether "Northerners and their Yoruba cohorts" outdid their Igbo compatriots in "power play" is not the issue, the real "koko" is that Ironsi taught Nigeria how to use power solely to the benefit of their kinsmen. When you set a bad precedent and later complain that others did far worse is, frankly speaking, emotionally unintelligent...isn't revenge usually much worse than the original sin?

Murtalas ADC, Lt Akintunde and his driver, Sergeant Adamu, both died with him

Google Brigadier Bako

Bro, go and read about Bako grin

You don't even know what you are talking about. Was it the National Guard that killed Bako or the coup plotters?

Moreover, if you still think these coups were bloodier than the January 1966 coup, then I can't go any further with you on this argument since your mischief is evident.

Gowon broke the most important point of the Aburi agreement.

One of the 12 points agreed in Aburi was that Gowon would not change the structural arrangement of Nigeria unless all 4 military Governors of the time agreed with him. On the 27th of May 1967, Gowon did just that. He announced that the 4 Regions would be abolished and replaced with 12 states, without consulting anybody nor seeking the approval of the 4 Military Governors, as agreed in Aburi. Ojukwu declared Biafra 3 days later on the 30th of May

Beer parlor gossip!!!

A misinterpretation of the Aburi Accord (which was inconclusive by itself) caused the Accord to fail.

Ojukwu set the ball rolling with a Press conference in Enugu the day after he returned from Ghana. ‘It was unanimously agreed … that the Regions should move slightly farther apart than before,’
http://www.citypeopleonline.com/gowons-meeting-ojukwu-failed-stop-civil-war-details-aburi-accord-ghana/

That was how Ojukwu interpreted the decision of political structure. But was that the conclusion Aburi reached?

It is in record that Ojukwu made the first press conference of the two, and Gowon did not agree with Ojukwu's interpretation of the agreement.

The Accord did not break down because someone breached it; differing interpretation to a rather inconclusive decision caused the Aburi Accord to break down.

Ojukwu interpreted the section of the Accord to suit his ambition. It is on record that he came to the meeting with so much arrogance and expectations and every attempt at a joke by Gowon was rudely rebuffed. Obviously, Ojukwu was looking beyond the Accord even though Gowon agreed to all his conditions, including moving Igbo soldiers from Northern barracks.

It is safe to say that Ojukwu was condescending because he felt he could beat Gowon and Nigeria in a war, even though it turned out he had no weapons with which to prosecute a war.

Stop blaming Gowon for the break down of the Accord. What would you have done if you were Gowon?

You just came back from a meeting and the next day, Ojukwu has called a press conference and began to speak of something that appears like secession.

The counter coup not only killed Ironsi and Fajuyi, it also killed over 300 officers from the Eastern Region.

Orkers coup took over 150 lives

Dimkas coup claimed over a hundred lives

The so called "Igbo coup" had the less casualty with 15 lives

Bro, you are referring to the aftermath of the coup and not the coup itself.

I don't know why people like to argue from a point of ignorance. All of the above has nothing to do with the main issue. The main issue is that Ojukwu and Gowon signed a 12 point agreement in Ghana, generally referred to as the Aburi accord. One of the points of the Aburi accord was that Gowon would not change the structural arrangement of Nigeria unless all the 4 Regional Military Governors of the time approved it. On 27th May 1967, Gowon announced the abolishment of the 4 Regions and the creation of 12 states without the approval of any of the 4 Military Governors, in clear violation of the Aburi accord. So what is this arguement that Gowon did not break the Aburi accord? With the violation of Aburi accord, Ojukwu then declared the independence of the Eastern Region on the 30th of May.

Of course, everybody knew that the reason Gowon abolished the 4 Regions was to implement the North's "divide and rule" strategy which they still use to control Nigeria to this day. Ojukwu was not prepared to accept that.

I have provided a link to one of many sources revealing that the Aburi Accord broke down due to misinterpretations on both sides of the conflict.

You have not provided one single source. Even scholarly materials provide citations to strengthen their arguments.

I called your talk beer parlor gossip for that very reason.

EASTERN NIGERIA AND THE HYPOCRISY OF RESTRUCTURING.

Do you know that when Tafawa Balewa was the Prime Minister of Nigeria;

Chief of Army Staff was from the East
Chief of Naval Staff was from the East
IG of Police was from the East
Chief of Defence staff was from the East
Internal Affairs Minister was from the East
External Affairs Minister was from the East
Education Minister was from the East
Many other key Ministers also came from the East
President of the Parliament, from the East
Unilag VC from the East
University of Ibadan VC from the East
The North resisted same at ABU!

Still there was dissatisfaction by Easterners, such that the military officers from the region conspired and killed this same Tafawa Balewa. !!!!

Out of all the most senior officers in Nigeria, the Eastern region had 37, none was killed. 8 from the North, all of them were killed. 10 from the West, 2 were killed.

Then Aguiyi Ironsi imposed a unitary system of government on the country so that everything that belonged to the regions can be snatched and controlled from the center.

We must know our history so that when we want to make corrections, we will not end up concealing the truth. This has nothing to do with tribalism but everything to do with the truth.....in such times like now, when lies litter the streets.

These are documented facts!

Thou shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

Prof. Ben Nwabueze was the man who drafted the constitution that took away powers from regions and handed it to the central govt because his brother Aguiyi Ironsi was the Head of State. Today, he is shouting restructuring, forgetting that it was himself who structured the current arrangement. We won’t forget. Let those who have ears, hear.

WHAT IS NEEDED IN NIGERIA IS NOT THE SO-CALLED RESTRUCTURING OR RESOURCE CONTROL BUT FOR US AS A PEOPLE TO RESTRUCTURE OUR MINDSETS AGAINST HATE, GREED, BIGOTRY AND CORRUPTION.

Therefore, let’s join the PMB-led Federal Government to build a strong nation, Nigeria, that is bonded by love, peace and unity.

Chief of naval staff was Vice Admiral Joseph Edet Akinwale, Afonja from South West.

Chief of defence staff wasn't in existence then, was formed in 1980.

Go to school you won't. Half education is dangerous!
