Former NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi and three others will go on trial on Tuesday on charges of corruption.

Lulu is joined by former First Vice President Amanze Uchegbulam, former Executive Committee member Taiwo Ogunjobi and former Secretary General Bolaji Ojo-Oba.

Nigeria's anti -corruption body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have detained all four men in preparation for their arraignment on Tuesday.

EFCC spokesman Femi Babafemi said the suspects would appear before Abuja Federal High Court Judge, Mr Justice D. Okorowa.

Among the charges brought against the quartet are:

• Payment of estacodes/allowances of $800,000 to 220 delegates to the World Cup in South Africa. Only 47 of which were authorised NFF officials

• mismanagement of N900million World Cup funds;

• purchase of over-inflated luxury buses for the Super Eagles;

• incurring a $125,000 fine in South Africa over a deal with Hampshire Hotel;

• mismanagement of $250,000 to charter a faulty aircraft for the Super Eagles from London to South Africa; and

• spending $400,000 for a friendly match between Colombia and Nigeria in London.

The officials were originally questioned on July 6 by the EFCC.

@hamid o,
pls tell me, what is there to learn? bode george stole over N100B and was sentenced to 2 yrs in paradise(jail). 75% of nigerians are ready to go and spend their lives in prison for N10m so with N1b involved, i will prefer to live in jail for ever and ever.
the truth is that nothing is happening to the corrupt ones so others are stealing.
those who are taking these men to court are as corrupt as these men if not more.
we only have noise making ppl as corrupting fighting agents.
the police who is the law enforcement agent in nigeria is the most corrupt group. the executive arm that is supposed to interprete our laws have failed woefully in their inordinate ambitions to loot this country dry while the judiciary are just like toothless bulldog.
in a country where thieves are worshipped like kings, who will not like to be a thief.

Lol, as gruesome as that seems, there really has to be some REAL punishment other than useless "quizzes" from EFCC. If not, then its all BS

point of correction; the judiciary actualy interpretes our laws and the executive implements/executes them. herein lies the problem. the checks and balances put in place to prevent each arm of govt from going crazy have dissappeared. Just saying.

Finally, the law at work. Now if only the judiciary would go after the executive and the legislative arms of govt. Nigeria would be a much better place.

Lulu, others plead not guilty

Former NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi and his three associates on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to charges of corruption at an Abuja Federal High Court.

Lulu, along with former Secretary General Bolaji Ojo-Oba and former executive committee members Amanze Uchegbulam and Taiwo Ogunjobi appeared in court facing a 10-count charge including mismanagement of over N900 million of Nigeria's World Cup budget and paying allowances to over 170 unauthorized persons during the World Cup in South Africa.

All four men entered not guilty pleas and were given stringent conditions to be freed on bail.

Justice Donatus Okorowo ordered each of the officials to deposit a N100 million bail bond and produce two sureties by Wednesday.

One of the sureties must be a senior public worker, while the other must be of high standing in Nigeria.

The guarantors will have to present their tax clearance certificates for the past three years and also have fixed property in Abuja.

A trial date is yet to be fixed.

Some of the charges are laughable.

• incurring a $125,000 fine in South Africa over a deal with Hampshire Hotel;
• mismanagement of $250,000 to charter a faulty aircraft for the Super Eagles from London to South Africa; and
• spending $400,000 for a friendly match between Colombia and Nigeria in London.

Is the EFCC for real? or are they pursuing hidden agenda. There will be no doubt that Lulu & co will have to answer for some cases of mismanagement of public funds but putting some of these charges trivialises the issues.

Lulu, others stay in jail

Former NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi and his three associates will spend the holiday season in jail after failing to meet their bail conditions on deadline.

Bail for Lulu, Amanze Uchegbulam, Taiwo Ogunjobi and Bolaji Ojo-Oba was set at N100 million each by Justice David Okorowo, along with two sureties.

The conditions were expected to be met before close of work on Wednesday to allow the men spend the sallah holidays with their respective families.

But the men failed to meet the conditions before the close of business and will remain in custody.

The former football officials are facing trial on a 10-count charge of misappropriating a sizeable chunk of Nigeria's World Cup funds.

NFF corruption case adjourned

The corruption case brought against four former officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been adjourned until October 5.

Justice Donatus Okorowa of the Abuja Federal High Court also disclosed that his officials have begun a verification of the documents of sureties produced by the four defendants for bail.

Former NFF president Sani Lulu, Vice-president Amanze Uchegbulam, secretary-general, Bolaji Ojo-Oba and chairman of the NFF technical committee, Taiwo Ogunjobi, have been handed a 10-count charge for corruption.

The charges were brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the country’s anti-graft agency.

The charges against the officials include mismanaging a World Cup budget of 900 million naira (about 6 million US dollars) and paying out allowances to unauthorised officials totalling over 800,000 US dollars.

The officials will also answer to charges of incurring a fine for a last-minute change of a World Cup training base for the national team and forking out 400,000 US dollars to stage a friendly against Colombia in London before the World Cup.

Nigeria bowed out of the World Cup after the first round.

The officials were first quizzed by EFCC in July. They have been in detention since Monday.
