They should pay up if it is a chicken change. It is a chicken change while their bank branches are being shut down, while you guys are the ones hyping them by telling us that the money is a chicken change. It is only GTB that wears the shoe knows where it pinches. To pay out 9b will be tough to them if not they would have paid it tonight.

obailala:
N9billion is chicken change for a large organisation like GTbank, paying that sum can be done without a single blink. But given that these large exploitative organisations dont mind extorting N50 and N100 from even their poorest customers, it's not surprising that they're fighting dirty to avoid paying Innoson whatever they owe him.

I'm afraid of the next case, that one is N14b against GTB by same Innoson. He has already won in FHC and court of appeal and currently case is already pending in Supreme Court.
By now I believe the bank will already be regretting ever doing business with Innoson and the step they have taken so far.

N9billion is chicken change to all the mainstream banks in Nigeria. But that doesnt mean they would pay it without a fight; these banks wouldnt even pay poor customers 10k without a battle, let alone billions. But for anyone to actually think a N9b payoff or fine can get any mainstream bank in Nigeria distressed, let alone one of the biggest in the league (GTB), then such a person must really be swimming in deep ignorance.

You miss the point. Of course we all know they can shell out that amount without a sweat, but what happens thier cooperate image?

Entities like GTB that rely heavily on investors and depositors confidence simply cannot afford to be emeshed in such trending stories like these.

For instance,.what happens if everyone starts panic withdrawal?

Banks get involved in these sort of cases and litigations very often; they win some, they lose some. There's nothing special about this case except that some nincompoops decided to turn it into another of their igbo vs yoruba foolishness, while some others turned it to apc vs pdp.

Regarding the corporate image of the bank, you seem to forget we're talking of a Nigerian bank here; one of the biggest and most influential out of the pack. These big banks are like rogue organisations who enjoy a certain level of exclusivity and monopoly. They worry less about corporate image, so losing a N9bn case (regardless of how messy it was) would have little or no effect on their business.

Did you say panick withdrawal? Over N8bn? For fear that the bank is distressed or what?

Oga, cold raw liquid 8.8billion is a big deal for any Nigerian commercial bank to cough out and pay. Forget all the quarterly results and annual revenue turn over being flaunted in their books.
No commercial bank will want to pay 8.8billion in liquid cash to any debtor. That is why since 27 February 2019 that this ruling was given at the supreme court, gtb has not done the needful.
Another thing is that, once they try it (that is paying raw 8.8bilion) all their other debtors will come for their own. It will simply set a bad precedence.

Read the judgment very well, this time slowly and you will see that there is nothing like payment of #8.8Billion in liquid cash at a go.

The money wasn't deducted at once ,so no judge will give an order for #8.8 billion to be paid at once.

#All banks in Nigeria are insured by the NDIC and they can NOT be liquidated just because of #8.8 Billion.
#People that know nothing about the matter are just commenting based on their tribalistic inclinations.

Ok. I need the whole story about this 8.8billion saga and the pending 14billion case in the supreme, I’m beginning to think GTB was extremely foolish and fell into Innoson’s trap.

Please lets all stop all these Innoson closes all GT Bank branches in the South East. Lets also stop calling GT Bank A South West Bank. I for one has been guilty of yabbing GT Bank in this issue and also calling their CEO a muslim. But its all jokes and also to make fun of the Yorubas that criticized innoson based on tribal sentiments.

But it seems water don dey pass garri. Lets all remember that all these banks have all tribes working in them. Most GT Banks in Lagos are filled with Igbo people even there headquarters. Lets not talk about South Eastern ones. E sure me say Innoson is a very crooked business man. GT Bank messed up. They played into his hands and should have foolishly apologised or sought settlement out of courts.
They were doing heavy illegal deductions and it will cost them heavily.

Lets also not forget that a Yoruba judge delivered the judgement. These judge will be payed heavily for his services for him to have won a big bank like GT Bank. Most judges will now want a cut too because its a bank. They will lure innoson to twist the case more because GT Bank have posted heavy profit and all corrupt judges will want to slice them off some bread.

This is Africa. A wicked continent!!!

Averagely $3M....8billion
GTB networth ₦ 3.16 Trillion (2016)

GTB should accept their loss and learn from this. Besides I suggest the MD should resign after payments.

This 3T is mostly in assets and not cash. They don't have such money in cash if not they would have paid Innoson when this money was just 2B. The 9b will shake them in no small way.

The panic withdrawals will not be due to 8 Billion Naira judgement, but due to the steps Innosons is taking to recover his money.
As at now all the GT bank branches in Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi States have been sealed via a court order. More will follow.
What if by Monday, the Nnewi man proceeds to seal off GT Bank headquarters in Victoria Island ?
He has a supreme court judgement, and a federal high court order to seal, seize and auction..
GT shares will definitely take a hit ,this week.

How did they enter into this mess is what worries me. They are completely trapped. Innoson still has another N14b case against them pending in Supreme Court. He has already won the case from FHC to Appeal court, should the supreme court upholds his winnings, that will be another big wahala. Around N22.8b will be going to just one person because of some carelessness of the bank management. Funny enough, the amount is not even fixed, it is still vomiting billions as long as the issue lingers un-liquidated.
