The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District and former Minority Leader of the 8th Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has called to congratulate his opponent and PDP Flag Bearer, Engr. Christopher Ekpenyong, on his convincing win at the February 23 National Assembly elections.

Senator-elect, Engr Chris Ekpenyong of the PDP scored 118, 215 votes, whipping Senator Godswill Akpabio of the APC who scored 83,158 votes.

In the phone call made by Senator Akpabio at exactly 12:15 am on Monday, April 1, 2019, Senator Akpabio congratulated Engr Ekpenyong and said he had decided to move on in the interest of the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

The said he was seriously considering making a debut as a Comedian (which he spoke openly about on Channels TV) and that he hopes to fall back to the streets as soon as possible.

The Senator pleaded with Engr. Ekpenyong to beg Governor Udom Emmanuel, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem and the entire PDP structure for forgiveness and that "his hands were tied" before being hoodwinked into joining the APC.

He also promised to withdraw a tribunal suit on Monday against Engr Ekpenyong which he (Senator Akpabio) had instituted to challenge the legality of Ekpenyong's win which in his view was marred by irregularities.
