Why African States Must Not Be Allowed To Ban Social Media Sites by olukosiibitoye: 6:44pm On Apr 02, 2019
In the last ten years, thanks to social media sites, the world has shrunk to a community, and African states are not exempt. There is hardly anything happening nowadays anywhere that will not get the attention of the world except it is not posted on Facebook, captured on Instagram or Twitter. Whereas, in the past ,it would have been very difficult to follow American politics for instance, but today, there is no fuss between Donald Trump and the Democrats that eludes the social media platforms.

Knowing the damage social media sites can pose to a despotic state, human rights activists take advantage of them to express their grievances as well as attract the attention, sympathy, and empathy of the world to their struggle. And because of this, some states usually take counter or proactive measures such as shutting down the internet, banning Facebook or all forms of social media sites.
