APC & PDP Should Field Igbo Presidential Candidates In 2023 by MasterofNL: 9:53am On Apr 09, 2019
Democracy returned to Nigeria in 1999 after many years of military rule.

The Yoruba(SW) produced the president in the person of Olusegun Obasanjo who was in power for 8 years. Recall that the major political parties fielded Yoruba candidates for the presidential election in that year and Obasanjo emerged victorious.

After Obasanjo's tenure, power shifted to the north and Yar Ardua of blessed memory was elected. Unfortunately he passed on while in power and this lead to power moving back to the south and this time, the SS produced the president in the person Goodluck Jonathan.

Power returned to the north in 2015 leading to the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari who is still in power today and whose tenure will expire in 2023.

Rotating the presidency between the north and the South is not written in our Constitution but has come to be accepted as a way of balancing the nation and ensuring lasting peace.

The SW has produced a president who ruled for 8 solid years and also presently have a vice president going on 8 solid years as well. The SS has produced a president as well who ruled for over 4 years and also produced a vice president leaving out only the SE. Since the return of democracy, the SE has not produced a president or a vice president.

In the spirit of equity, fairness and justice, power should return to the south in 2023 and should move to the SE. The Yorubas clamouring for Osinbajo or Tinubu to become president in 2023 should step back and think properly. Put yourselves in the shoes of the Igbos and imagine what it feels like. If the Yorubas understand anything about fairness they should withdraw Tinubu and Osinbajo from the 2023 presidential race or any other Yoruba for that matter.

If the north understands anything about fairness then they should not even think of retaining power beyond 2023.

Both the PDP and the APC should field Igbo presidential candidates in 2023 like it was done for the Yorubas in 1999. If the Igbos are schemed out of the presidential race in 2023 after these glaring facts then sincerely on what basis should Nigeria continue to exist as one having Igbos in the union?

Nigeria should do the right thing come 2023.

In 1999, Nigeria accepted Falae and Obasanjo all from SW as the sole candidates...in the two major parties...

In 2019, Nigeria accepted Buhari and Atiku all from the north, as the sole candidates...in the two major parties...

If in 2023, Nigeria fails to accept two candidates from SE, then it means Nigeria don't want the Igbos, and it will be just clear to the world...

If Nigeria accepted the pattern in 1999 and 2019 for peace to reign why not do the same in 2023, as SE a major tripod in the structure of Nigeria for independence, has not had a president for about 50 years...

No political party will field an Igbo candidate in 2023 because the region does not have voting strength. Its a blatant true that an average Igbo is a PDP member.
Until there is positive political orientation in the region, the political tide will continue to swing against them

What do you mean by tribal politics, did they not vote for candidates from the north, SW and SS refusing to vote their own tribal men..even Ojukwu of APGA? You people have nothing more to say due to your phobia...and this is really shameful!

My brother the thing is really shameful.

We abandoned our sons Chuba Okadigbo and Ume Ezeoke and voted for the Yoruba and the Fulani yet they say Igbos are playing tribal politics. Nawa oo.

This is not about PDP or APC, it is about Nigeria as it concerns equity, fairness and justice.

The major political parties have fielded candidates simultaneously from the Yoruba and the Fulani so we are asking that the same be done for the Igbos. Simple.

Why are you always comparing SE with SW? They are not the same and not in the same class. Has ibos ever voted for Yoruba's interest? NO. Obasanjo you guys are always quick to mention was never Yorubas interest or candidate, reason why ibos voted for him. Using obasanjo's name all the time shows how weak minded, coward and mischievous ibos are

Which voting strength did Yorubas have before Obasanjo became president? Was it not other regions that made him president? Did Yoruba voting strength give Falae victory??

Oga, my write up covered the whole country not just SE and SW. Bottom line is that Obasanjo was and is still a pure Yoruba son and Igbos voted for him. Did the Hausa/Fulani also not vote for Obasanjo? Did they vote for your Falae? What of the MB? Why single out the Igbos every time??

No region has the political strength to win presidency alone, you need to align with the like minds to achieve that. For your information, obasanjo never won any election in Nigeria, he was merely coronated by babangida et al in 1999 and in 2003 he soothed himself by writing election results.

If PDP and APC present Igbo candidates, wouldn't people just vote for any third party that doesn't? Or are you assuming only PDP and APC can win elections in a democratic Nigeria?

If you do think so, I strongly suggest you study democracy a bit more!

Did Nigerians demand that both Parties MUST field candidates from same region? I can't recall any referendum to that effect.

Why single out Yorubas all the time? Issues are Nigerians are not objective. Otedola won lagos governorship in 1993 because only passionate members of NRC came out to vote, sdp candidates had no passion to vote because of court judgement against their 2 leading contenders. Samething happened during obasanjo vs falae both yorubas, but it was easy for babangida/military to capitalize on few voters that came out to vote and wrote result against Falae who was seen as ally or of the same party interest as Abiola who military of babangida had openly and mistakenly pronounced was not acceptable to the military.

Are you for real? Would you raise your child like this? I.e encourage him to misbehave always, disturb the peace 24/7 and never take responsibility for his actions only to then insist others must indulge and include him in their plans? Given Igbo behaviour in Nigerian contemporary politics over the past ten years, would you be presenting them as candidate for the top job if you were not Igbo?

If you are from a small ethnic group who must rely on Nigeria always gaining a President who would be fair to all would you trust Igbos with ultimate power right now given all they have shown? I.e their non-stop insistence on blaming other Nigerians for their woes and constant demand they need to secede? It is not as if most Nigerians don't know that majority of Igbos think like that either. Be honest with yourself for once and put yourself in the shoes of other Nigerians. Maybe then you will accept 2081 may not even be possible for Igbos.

What exactly have the Igbos done wrong in politics?

We voted for Obasanjo in 1999 just like other regions did. The NW, NE, NC and SS also voted for Obasanjo.

We voted for Obasanjo again even when our own son was on the VP ticket in 2003.

We voted for Yar Ardua in 2007 against another of our son.

In 2011 we gave our support to Jonathan in the spirit of fairness and equity.

What exactly have we done wrong?
