This is his first democratic push for the seat which he left in 1993. The wily ex-armoured officer had endured speculations about his presidential aspirations since 2003. Arrangements have been concluded for a hitch-free declaration, according to his campaign organization. The ex-General is going into the race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and is banking on the zoning formulae of the party, which favours his home Northern geo-political zone to succeed. In several interviews, he dismissed the opposition of the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan and apologized for some of his indiscreet acts while in office, 15 years ago. He will be 70 next year and believes his age and experience would have much to offer the country. IBB is reputed for his introduction of newbreed politics, which was the hallmark of his aborted transition programme between 1987 and 1993.[/b] |
