Re: Nigerian Students In Russia by oasis: 4:46am On Jan 15, 2006
I understand.

It's not about Russia being good or bad.  It's just that when you've made friends in a place, a part of it stays with you.   And there's nothing like getting re-united with long lost pals.
Re: Nigerian Students In Russia by layi(m): 5:22am On Jan 15, 2006

Is Russia that much worse than Nigeria?

Cold is not an excuse.  Canada is just as cold.

Most Nigerian students go to Russia on scholarship.  Besides, by the time you return, you're stronger mentally because of the challenges you've faced.  Also, you would've added another language to your list.  Good on your CV.

I think Russia is tougher for foreigners now though.  Russians have always been xenophobic.

Are Zambians still as sweet as ever. I had a few of them as friends myself.

Have Russians improved somewhat in terms of their view of inostrantsi?

For somebody who declares he doesn't know about Russia, you sure are making some direct statements here.

Ghetto?  What on earth are you talking about?  The whole idea of communism is that all citizens are equal.  So if any part of the country is ghetto, then the whole country is ghetto.  Which is certainly not the case.

Why do you guys without facts feel the need to contribute to this thread?  If you have a specific question, or you would like to learn about Russia, go ahead and ask, and somebody will help you out.

There's a lot I didn't like about Russia, mainly their xenophobia, and gangs running amock.

But there's also a lot Nigeria can learn from Russia:

Transportation is top notch and cheap. Everything is timed and highly punctual.
There is no hunger.
There is no homelessness.
No rioting in schools.
Free healthcare.
24/7 electricity.
24/7 Running water.
Solid roads.
They had super power status.
etc.

Can Nigeria claim any of the above?

It's quite true. smiley But Russia is big and had 4 seasons. Who are not mad now? cheesy

He understamds russian. Subjects, that we learn are maths and programming. Digital language is that we need.

There is no racism in my town (maybe a little bit with no aggression).

i think some part of russia is ghetto

That U mean by "ghetto"?

We do steps to improove international relationships. Outside big cities it wasn't a problem ever.

Really?  How come Americans don't know how people live in Africa?  They think we all live in jungles. smiley

when i say ghetto i mean poor!!

Russia is poor, but not ghetto poor.

Russia has its problems, but I commend them for a lot of things.

Russia is poor, but not the I can't eat 3 square meals a day poor.

I think your use of the word ghetto suggests the people are downtrodden and living in abject poverty.  But that's not the case.

smiley @oasis you are 100% right. Visit WWW.NIGERIANSTUDENTSUNION.COM to see what you may have missed about nigerian community in Russia and worldwide
Let me tell you my experienced advantages:
1. Russia has a high standard in education
2. Their teachers/lecturers.professors are not interested in your money, most of them want to pour out their vast knowledge to students while they are alive and while they can.
3. See was believing for me. You can be the best in the world if you put your head down to study in Russia. When you go for international conferences, the difference is usually clear
4. Constant Power, Light, Internet (No NEPA)
5. Phone calls are cheap. Imagine paying just 1000 naira and getting 200 minutes (free to local calls). SOme tariff plans give free local calls
6. Education fees/ Tution fees is cheaer than you will find in most countries and they offer scholarship at a high rate. You may even get a scholarship for getting A's in your exams instantly.

once again visit WWW.NIGERIANSTUDENTSUNION.COM. It's free to join, lively and social grin

What I see in Russia is that though the salaries are low, yet an average Russian live a decent life, they might not be rich yet they are far from suffering, power supply is constant, they don’t pay in the hospitals, schooling is free and the government give students studying in their Universities some money (stipendi) every month for good performance. But the things I really like in Russia are their vodka, piva and of course their jevushki .

Who is sponsoring you?Nigerian government?if it is Nigerian Govt,i think they pay around 300 dollars monthly for undergraduate students and about 500 dollars for Masters(not too sure what the current amount is though),the Russian government will also give you something at the end of every month if your result is satisfactory.i did part of my M.Eng in Russia(Exchange program).Which town in Russia are you going to?

Sir which courier service do u know is the best cus i don't have much cash with me to mail them via fedex or ups.
Re: Nigerian Students In Russia by maileby(m): 9:13am On Oct 27, 2009
@mevisbleek, NIPOST is very effective now, I posted some docs. thru NIPOST to Australia this month and was delivered in just 8 working days approximately 2weeks. Australia is very far and was deliverd in just 2weeks how much more Norway that is not too far.

@pius4luv, u can use NIPOST if u don't have enough money or better still u can use EMS at the same NIPOST and u will be able to track your mail. I think EMS will not be more than 3 working days, cos I used EMS last week to sent some docs. to Australia and got delivered yestarday, so about 4 working days.
