What can a government worker with a family of 4 children plus father and mother making it 6 do with 30000 now?? Corruption is here to stay in Nigeria, how do you think they will train their 4 children to university level without involving in corruption

Why should you have four children with a monthly income of 30k...people should blame themselves before blaming the government.

somehow:
₦30,000 being minimum wage doesn't mean that's what all workers earn.

Only those with the least qualifications earn this (school leavers/ssce)
Also note that as ₦30k was approved, so will there be increase in all other salaries for more qualified staff.

The one that earns ₦50k likely to earn ₦62k etc.

Now to the one earning ₦150k likely to earn ₦162k

So it's not just about the ₦30k earners, it's about every other workers.

So imagine paying more for minimum wage, what about the others?

Lastly, we pay civil servants that produce nothing in exchange.

What exactly does civil servants do? Which govt offices work at optimal? But they all get paid monthly!

The people that collect this minimum wage are the cleaners or the office messengers that just looking for anything to do

Though they will benefit in the increment but the real beneficiary are the ogas from level 8 above because their salary will be increase too

I have never seen anyone that has wife and three children that collect minimum wage

The brain of such man who earn 30k and gave birth to 4 kids needs to be examined. Let's not fool ourselves here. If you know your income + that of your wife is less than 100k per month, you shouldn't put your kid in a school were you will be paying 40k per term.

Truth is Nigeria salary structure shld be based in dollars, that way the cabal can fluctuate the currency the way they want and it won't affect the masses.

Oga go and sit down. Typical Nigerian, always looking at financials from the expenditure side of things only. From the Gowon era and his now infamous, 'our problem is how to spend it' to the present. Nigerians will NEVER look at the income/earnings side. They will always be comparing their earnings with 'senators' or citizens of developed countries. Ask them if they produce a fraction of what those they compare themselves with and you receive 'no answer'. Police will say they collect bribe because they earn far below those in the United States....nonsense. But everyone does it. They cannot teach, treat, build, administer justice, sweep streets, run, climb, drill, carry, trade.... because they donot earn enough. Is it not work that makes money again...

That is why it is so easy for failed politicians to swindle them of power without getting any concrete, tangible return. Within the time span quoted what has Nigeria done to increase productivity and earnings to be able to give itself a raise. You can only pay yourself from what you earn. The alternative is either to borrow (to live a fake life, a life of subsidies in power, fuel, schools, hospitals, like we have been doing for decades) or steal (as you point out - from the citizens).

Irrespective, Nigerians are irresponsible hypocrites. The day we wake up and take charge of this country and our destiny being active, responsible and engaging citizens the way nationals of other countries are, then we will know what to do to change our fortunes. I repeat again. Government is just a nomenclature for a group of people whose responsibility is to organise society, period. It is the quality of the society that determines its experiences. Nigerians are poor because we have an abundance of lazy, ignorant, corner cutting citizens whose penchant for blaming everything and everyone except themselves is legendary.

Oga. Within the time frame quoted what have we done to diversify the economy. What have we done to DEMAND government organises us around alternative sources of income outside oil. Even within the sullied oil mono economy to keep up with inflation we should be producing something like 4 million barrels of oil a day, something near impossible. So where will the money to pay raise come from... I tell you.... hear this. The stripping of assets, the mortgaging of the future, the crushing of what is left of the middle class. This country is effectively slaving for government employees.

Will Nigerians actually have a higher purchasing power, looking at the commodity price index and inflation in the last decade.

Can we say the 30,000 is the best government can offer?

Our Senators and executive members can't even fuel their car with 30k
Better than never, we know what we clamour for throughout the years back but atleast for Mr President to assent the bill is a recommendation he earned from the NLC. Let's start from here first as time goes on they can decide to amend some certain areas regarding Civil servant allowance.
OP stop looking into the allowance of the national Assembly if you wish to stay long on ds earth.

It is shameful to see Nigerian youths display this level of illiteracy as seen on this thread. The OP made salient points but the best argument some people's brains can think up is "We spend Naira not Dollars". Buhari was right when he called y'all lazy, and mental laziness is even much worse than physical laziness.
▪We don't use Dollar, but are we self sufficient?
▪Is Naira the world currency?
▪Are prices of commodities the same as they were 5 years ago?

▪Try to purchase stuff online then come back and reiterate this same nonsense.
One thing i will never understand is why some people take it upon themselves to cheer a government that is anti-people and only concerned about their own greedy mouths.

You've said it all jawe.. I was going to reply the nitwit talking trash about Nigeria not spending Dollars but you've said all i wanted to say already. The truth is, most Nigerian Youths are actually dumbb and they onky applaud mediocrity and incompetence...

Imagine spewing such trash forgetting that the purchasing power of the Naira is not the same with what it used to be.... 30k that isn't even up to a common 100 dollars which other countries pay above is what Nigerians are celebrating forgetting that the 30k doesn't have much value in this present period...

My friend, more than 70 % of our commodities are imported, your phone, electronics, even some food items. The devaluation in value of the Naira over the last couple of years have affected the prices of these commodities.

It is important to know how much your wages are worth in USD.

Why dwell on minimum while the problem is incremental factor and resultant effects such as allowances and emoluments from senior Staffs packages

What percentage increase will senior Staffs from level 8 get?

The best model is to increase everyones salary by 12k. That way, the wage gap will remain unchanged while the minimum wage goes up to 30k by reason of the 12k added across board. angry

Just imagine the nonsense comments. The guy raised a very valid point and some people are saying we spend naira not dollar.
Let me tell you the country depends solely on this dollar even though our medium of exchange is not dollar. Common airtime moved from 100 to 110. Clothes I bought a year ago for 1k are now being sold for 1.5k.
What we need from this government is not an increment on minimum wage but how to make the naira stand head to head with the dollar. They should work on how to stop the free fall of our naira thereby cutting down inflation.
Believe you me even if our minimum wage is increased without tackling this issues we are going no where. Take Venezuela as a case study.
