STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE Episode 5
PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAILS
A Case Study of Joseph Jacob (Reference: Genesis 37,39-50)

As we continue to the 5th episode of this series, we will examine how PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAILS will facilitate our process of STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE.
Genesis 37:2 (MSG)…The story continues with Joseph, seventeen years old at the time, helping out his brothers in herding the flocks…And Joseph brought his father bad reports on them. Genesis 39:2-6 (MSG) He put him in charge of all his personal affairs, turning everything over to him. From that moment on, God blessed the home of the Egyptianall because of Joseph. The blessing of God spread over everything he owned, at home and in the fields, and all Potiphar had to concern himself with was eating three meals a day. Genesis 39:21-23 (TLB) But the Lord was with Joseph there, too, and was kind to him by granting him favor with the chief jailer. 22 In fact, the jailer soon handed over the entire prison administration to Joseph, so that all the other prisoners were responsible to him. 23 The chief jailer had no more worries after that, for Joseph took care of everything, and the Lord was with him so that everything ran smoothly and well.
Genesis 40;5-8 (ICB) One night both the kings officer who served him wine and the baker had a dream... 6 When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw they were worried. 7 Joseph asked the kings officers who were with him, Why do you look so unhappy today? 8 The two men answered, We both had dreams last night. But no one can explain the meaning of them to us. Joseph said to them, God is the only One who can explain the meaning of dreams. So tell me your dreams. Genesis 41: 47-48, 53-57 (MSG) 47-48 During the next seven years of plenty the land produced bumper crops. Joseph gathered up the food of the seven good years in Egypt and stored the food in cities. In each city he stockpiled surplus from the surrounding fields. Joseph collected so much grainit was like the sand of the ocean! 53-54 Then Egypts seven good years came to an end and the seven years of famine arrived… All countries experienced famine; Egypt was the only country that had bread. 55 When the famine spread throughout Egypt, the people called out in distress to Pharaoh, calling for bread. He told the Egyptians, Go to Joseph. Do what he tells you.
56-57 As the famine got worse all over the country, Joseph opened the store-houses and sold emergency supplies to the Egyptians. The famine was very bad. Soon the whole world was coming to buy supplies from Joseph. The famine was bad all over.

The future ahead of us is such a compelling one. Remember STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE is not about youthe child, spouse, family, money, etc you want to have. STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE is about how your life will benefit humanity...your life becoming an instrument through which God will touch your world. Looking through the life of Joseph Jacob as he took steps into the future, we discovered some concepts/skills that we will need to know and acquire if we will ever be able to step into the future God has for us. One of such that we have seen all through Joseph Jacobs journey into the future is paying attention to details.
Without paying attention to details, he would not be able to present a report to his father concerning the flocks (at 17 years old)
It is easy to just focus on the blessings and favour of God on him while a slave at Potiphars house, but without paying attention to details he could have not effectively managed Potiphars household
Most of us desire great position of influence, but how much do we pay attention to details? The Jailer handed over the prison to Joseph Jacob, and everything ran smoothly and well because he paid attention to details.
He was able to add value to peoples life because he paid attention to detailsthat was why he could ask fellow prisoners Why do you look so unhappy today?
There was no way he could have gathered so much food for 7 years that will last another 7years if he never paid attention to details
Paying, attention to detail is a learned skill that we must incorporate into our lives if we really want to step into the compelling and amazing future ahead of us. It takes a lot of hard and mental work. Decide today never to live and ordinary life and start paying attention to details in all you do.

STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE – Episode 6
FORGETTING THE PAST
A Case Study of Joseph Jacob (Reference: Genesis 37,39-50)
Welcome to the 6th episode of this series, as we examine how FORGETTING
THE PAST will help us in our drive to ultimately STEP INTO THE
FUTURE. We shall consider the dynamics of this in the life of Joseph Jacob
Genesis 50:15-26 (NIV)
15When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father
was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us
back for all the wrongs we did to him?” 16 So they sent word to Joseph, saying,
“Your father left these instructions before he died: 17 ‘This is what you are to
say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they
committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the
servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph
wept. 18His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We
are your slaves,” they said. 19But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I
in the place of God? 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good
to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. 21 So then,
don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured
them and spoke kindly to them. 22 Joseph stayed in Egypt, along with all his
father’s family. He lived a hundred and ten years 23 and saw the third
generation of Ephraim’s children. Also the children of Makir son of Manasseh
were placed at birth on Joseph’s knees. 24 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I
am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of
this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”
25And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, “God will surely
come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.” 26 So
Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten. And after they embalmed him, he
was placed in a coffin in Egypt.

Philippians 3: 12-14 (NIV) 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or
have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which
Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself
yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and
straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the
prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Contd...

We need to keep reminding ourselves that the future ahead of us is such a
compelling one…STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE is not about you…the
child, spouse, family, money, etc you want to have. STEPPING INTO
THE FUTURE is about how your life will benefit humanity…your life
becoming an instrument through which God will touch your world.
One major factor that may ultimately hold us back from STEPPING INTO
THE FUTURE is when we keep holding on to the past – the good, the
bad and the ugly.
-The past drains you of the energy required to step into the future.
- In life, it is not the things we forget which we should have remembered
which cause the most trouble; it is the things we remember which we
should have forgotten.
-We are humans with amazing mental ability, so what does it mean to
forget? This mean never to allow events and experiences in the past have
emotional hold on us. It is easier to forget things when you cut off the
emotional connections.
- We need to learn to forget the past no matter how good or bad it has
been.
- Holding on to your past success can put limits on your future attainments.
To dwell constantly upon our past achievements will certainly not ensure
present victory, and it may in fact engender pride. Some people are living
on a past succes.
- We must forget our past sins, inadequacies and failure. If we have
confessed and renounced our sin, God has forgiven it and forgotten it (1
John 1:9). If God has forgotten our sins we must do the same, otherwise the
memory of them will hinder us.
- We must forget the sins and the failures of others. One of the ways to
forget the past is to forgive offences and hurts. “Be kind and compassionate
to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”
(Ephesians 4:32 NIV).

REFLECTIONS: When you think about forgiveness, who comes to mind? If
it’s someone you need to forgive, what will you do now? What tangible
action can you take to demonstrate forgiveness to someone who has hurt
you in the past? What might you need to leave behind or let go of in order
to move forward into the future? Is there a situation or a conversation
from the past that you need to deal with in the present in order to move on
to the future?

STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE Series Review
A Case Study of Joseph Jacob (Reference: Genesis 37,39-50)
The last 6 weeks has been an amazing and revealing period for us as we
examine basic facts and concept that would help us step into the future.
What is one basic high point for you concerning the life of Joseph
Jacob with respect to stepping into the future?
Review Week 1: THE PRELUDE - DIVINITY STEPPING INTO THE
FUTURE OF HUMANITY…We were able to see the process of Divinity
(God) stepping into the future of humanity, through the crucifixion,
death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. All inhabitants of the earth will
worship the beast -- all whose names have not been written in the book of life
belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.
Revelation 13:8 (NIV). Jesus Christ is referred to as the Lamb of God who
died for the sins of the world (John 1:29). God is always stepping into
the future for us before we ever realize it. He paid the greatest
sacrifice for us before we ever come into the consciousness of our
need for it. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we
were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (NIV)
Review Week 2- THE PICTURE OF THE FUTURE…The future belongs
to those who show and take responsibility. Joseph took responsibility.
Ultimately, you do not have an excuse for not stepping into the future. The
lazy man is full of excuses. “I can’t go to work!” he says. “If I go outside, I
might meet a lion in the street and be killed!” Proverbs 22:13 (TLB). At each
time of Joseph Jacob’s life, he had a present/current picture that could have
held him back from looking forward to the picture of the future.
STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE is not about you…the child, spouse,
family, or money you want to have. STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE is
about how your life will benefit humanity…Your life becoming an
instrument through which God will touch your world.
Review Week 3- THE OPPORTUNITY COST OF THE FUTURE…To see
the picture of the future come to fruition, there is a cost. Some measures of
self-imposed discipline and delayed gratification is required if we must see
our God-given dreams become a reality. Joseph Jacob was willing to
sacrifice the comfort /pleasures of the present in a quest to secure the
possibilities of the future. 1 Corinthians 9:27 (TLB) 27 Like an athlete I
punish my body, treating it roughly, training it to do what it should, not what
it wants to. Otherwise I fear that after enlisting others for the race, I myself
might be declared unfit and ordered to stand aside. Why is it difficult most
times to pay the price for the future?
Review Week 4- THE PATH TO THE FUTURE… Sometimes the path
to the eventual future we look forward to is not the path we are
willing to take. How would you respond if your siblings despised you so
much that they arranged for you to be sold to a slave trader, your boss,
whom you had faithfully served with impeccable integrity, was quick to
believe a lie about you and subsequently have you thrown into jail, after
standing for what you believe with respect to your faith and you expect
God to show up on your case, but instead you were rewarded with prison?
This was Joseph’s path to the future…it is a case study for us. For the
path that leads to the future, sometimes we have unpleasant experiences
(Joseph)…our consolation is in Isaiah 43:2 (NLT) When you go through
deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will
not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
Review Week 5 - PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAILS…It is easy to
just focus on the blessings and favour of God on Joseph while a slave at
Potiphar’s house, but without paying attention to details he could have not
effectively managed Potiphar’s household. There was no way he could have
gathered so much food for 7 years that will last another 7years if he never
paid attention to details. Paying, attention to detail is a learned skill
that we must incorporate into our lives if we really want to step into
the compelling and amazing future ahead of us. It takes a lot of hard
and mental work. Decide today never to live an ordinary life and start
paying attention to details in all you do.
Review Week 6 - FORGETTING THE PAST… One major factor that
may ultimately hold us back from STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE is when
we keep holding on to the past – the good, the bad and the ugly.
The past drains you of the energy required to step into the future. Never
allow events and experiences in the past have emotional hold on you. It is
easier to forget things when you cut off the emotional connections. Holding
on to your past success can put limits on your future attainments.
