When will they do something about inner city roads? It's like Ambode has forgotten these roads exist and the LGA chairmen don't care either
leave lowland otherwise known as mainland
move to highland otherwise known as Island

At last! Where will they start and where will they end.
The whole entire lagos roads are in a mess, especially on the mainland.
I've observed that Local Governments don't function in lagos. Wonder why Tinubu was in a hurry to create more, when they're not functional.
They were highly functional under Fashola and even competed every time. Under Ambode, they were dummy variables.

Ordinarily, the task of filling potholes, garbage removal/waste management, primary schools, etc., should be that of LGs. SMH

This repair work is looking overwhelming to the state government because the local governments who are primarily responsible for doing these kinds of jobs are largely incapacitated. This should have been easily handled by making each local government roll out its own direct works team to critical spots, since they have better knowledge of their terrains.

Rather, what has been happening is that the state controlled LSPWC randomly picks bad spots to fix. Often times, they do shoddy jobs by deliberately leaving some areas within the same spot undone and that becomes the next point where the road starts to go very bad almost immediately. This to me is simply a waste of time and resources.
As it stands now, if LSPWC decides to be working 24hrs daily, they would not have covered Lagos major and inner roads in months. These roads were simply neglected by the current administration of Akinwunmi Ambode.

Somebody should help me beg Ogun state govt to sell Sango and Environ to Lagos. The population in those areas is more than Agege,Oshodi and Mushin all together but there is no development there at all, no good road when you query the govt they will tell us we don't pay our taxes to Ogun state but Lagos.

In my house in Ijoko

-I provide my water

- We constructed our roads

- we built our bridge

-we bought the transformer

-We erected our electric poles

-We built police station

-We provide security

We do virtually everything without the help of Ogun state govt .

Lagos should acquire Ogun I beg

Don't mind the ogun state government, no presence of government in sango at all, you look around what you would see are private investments here and there, from Nigerian breweries, to Avon crowncaps, to farmex Meyer, to FIDSON health, drugfield, ecomed, unique pharmaceuticals, to geepee tank, Veevee, arvee, Olympic ink, fine chemicals, parle g foods, twinster, Mr chef, shoprite, not to talk of the numerous banks that are abound there, and so many other companies, people working in these companies and also the company itself remit tax to the state government, still yet, they can't fix up a single road in sango ota, it's just so pathetic......

The local governments don't have fiscal autonomy. Most states take their cash because state local joint account. That's why its important for local government to get autonomy so they work. They shouldn't be elected to sit in their hands.

Approved for LG autonomy: Benue, Plateau, Niger, Bauchi, Sokoto, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Kwara and Ogun

Voted Against LG autonomy: Edo, Rivers and Imo

Its a Positive Development.
However , Contractors tend to siphon off funds and use cheap materials. Road construction is the prime food for corruption.

Transparency and monitoring of materials used etc. must be done to ensure that funds are being used properly.

Potholes arise due to tar roads using cheap materials. Cement roads are a more viable option in the long run.

I hope President Jubril Al-Sudan will look into this matter.

[Maybe.its high time we review the local government law and address it's relevance to the society

Local government are non functional hence the need to scrap it

No one should say they are not funded because there is virtually no state government that doesn't allocate monies to the local government. Good intention or bad intention money is allocated

In developed countries projects are handled by local government. Hence speedy development is seen. Here the reverse is the case

If it is not working then let's scrap it and replace with agencies or something

Look at inner-city roads ..nothing to write home about. How many raids can the state govt cover?

I challenge the federal govt to look into this..

My tots though.

Governance in Nigeria is just a money making venture.
Most Nigerians don't know the job of a local govt chairman. Nigeria is probably the only country where law makers take money for 'constituency projects'.

No respite in sight

Better late than never...

They should plan and steer clear of the major roads during rush hour.

Also they should use a quick set technology so that repaired roads stay good and ready to use by motorists shortly after repairs. That’s what repairers in saner climes use to enhance efficiency of resources deployed.

Thank you!!!

PS
Plastic roads are making waves in India. They should be seriously considered.

AutoJoshNG:

The Lagos State Government has begun immediate repairs of potholes across the State, with over 87 major roads enlisted for intervention.

Special Adviser, Lagos State Public Works Corporation and Drainage, Engr. Temidayo Erinle, in a statement on Friday, said the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode had directed that the Corporation should commence immediate rehabilitation of critical roads across the State.

He said the roads mapped out for repair were presently in terrible state, and that the situation was impeding free flow of traffic in those areas with its attendant consequences.

"We have received quite a number of complaints from residents and motorists on the State of the roads and how it was directly affecting travel time which in turn has negative effects on the ease of doing business in the State.

"The Governor has therefore directed the Public Works Corporation to move immediately and commence repair on those roads to ameliorate the traffic that residents have been going through as a result of the State of the roads," he said.

Erinle, however, appealed to residents and motorists to bear with the State Government, urging them to drive carefully while the roads are being fixed.

He assured that in the next few weeks, all the potholes would disappear on Lagos roads.

Some of the roads captured for immediate repair include Ikotun-Egbe, Ijegun Roads, Alimosho and Dopemu Roads, Aka-Kemberi Road, Amuwo Odofin, Marina Beach Road, Apapa, Olaniyi Road in Ifako Ijaiye, Acme-Oba Akran Road and Ikeja.

Other roads also listed include Ijede Road, Sabo market Road in Ikorodu, Costain Road by Brewery, Glover Road, Herbert Macaulay Road in Mainland Local Government, Itire-Ogunlana drive intersection, Itire-Lawanson, Babs Animashaun Road in Surulere, Alakija/WAEC Road, Somolu, Obalende Road, Eti-Osa, among others.''

Concerning some roads not yet captured in the above list of roads, kindly note that no part of the State would be left unattended to, it is just a matter of fixing these roads in batches, your area will definitely receive due attention in no distant time.

Lagos state government needs to put more emphasis on the quality of the road repairs. The lay by that takes you from outer marina into VI via bonny camp has been resurfaced twice in just over a year and already bad ahead of this year's rainy season. One particular reason is because they pay no attention to drainage. Another is because we allow other externalities to spoil the road. All symptoms of an incompetent government and civil service structure.

Hmmmm....Public Works Corporation? is it part private?...then money is going to be diverted....corners cut... sub-standard work with a hefty price tag. From the pics... I can see the work is sub-standard. The bitumen should be hot...steaming when spread. It is not...no smoke seen...and the workers would not dare be working almost bare footed. After patching... the area needed to be rolled by a heavy roller.... not a light duty rammer...as is evident from the already patched area shown. Then the edge of the area should be sealed with hot tar. If this is done... cars wouldn't be able to strip off the bitumen beginning from the edge. That's how it's done ...from my observations. I can bet my life they have enough money to get the equipment and carry out the repairs to meet international standards...but...why should they when mediocrity is accepted?
On repairs of busy major roads... that should be confined to nights and weekends to ease traffic congestion. After all.....it's good he is doing something....half a loaf is better than no bread.
