A Nigerian student identified as Augustine Wallies, has been murdered by his compatriots after he was accused of stealing his roommate’s money in Cyprus.

According to the police, Augustine, a student of the Near East University, was hit on the head till he passed out and his body was dumped in a forest area in Haspolat on Friday, April, 19, 2019.

However, with the help of surveillance cameras, 12 people, including 9 Nigerians, have been arrested in connection with the murder and 3 of them have admitted their roles.

The suspects appeared in court in Lefkosa, today. One of the suspects told the police that the murder took place in the living room of an apartment. He added that the deceased was severely beaten and strangled.

Those arrested include: Eze Christopher, Ambrose Kelechi ONYEUKWU, Afamaefune Hanry UWADIBIE, Clement Ozuman MANUFUR, Christian Chukwuka ALZANI.

Others are: Gabriel Kelechi MUUKWE, Chinonso Chiemelie ONUE, Prince OGUNMANAM, Ifeanyıchukwav Valentine EZE, Nana Fosu Awoture NKANSAH (Ghanaian), Wayne Ayanda MOYO (Zimbabwean), Amanda NYAMBAWE (Zimbabwean).

This is barbaric. When will black's stop hating each other. In South Africa, there is xenophobia where a black man feels another black man from another country is making the money he is supposed to make when white men dominate the country and control almost all the resources.

The truth is we are too selfish and hate each other but we might not admit it.

This is also the problem with our leaders.

The constructiveness of this writeup made me believe Nairaland promotes tribalism.

After all, Nairaland does not carry automatic features, like the most read article appearing automatically on the FP. The contents on the front page were promoted by the moderators of the forum after they must have crosschecked the contents of the topic they were pushing to the FP.

How come the moderators out of deliberation promotes tribalistic write-ups?

Nairaland is the number forum in Nigeria and maybe Africa, but tribalism is fast drowning the face of this engine.

There is nothing wrong with the constructiveness of the write up. It is the mindset of the commenters that has a huge problem. Reading, interpretating and giving tribral undertones to a plain and simple write up and commenting absolute rubbish. The write up says Nigerians. Listing people involved is very normal.

Bringing tribalism to every important issue in this country to bring confusion cannot spur progress for us.

They need to delete tribal comments and ban such commenters here that’s the only way to bring some sanity.

I think when filing a report to a set of people, your model of report determines the reactions you'll get from your audience.

If Nairaland truly wishes to curb tribalism via its engine, let it's moderators adopts a model that guides it's users during write-ups.


While deleting tribalistic comments and banning tribalistic commentors can help curb the challenge to an extent, it's definitely not the best way to curb the tribalistic challenge faced by the forum. How many comments do the moderators have to delete on topics promoted to the front page? Or more employees? I think it will be a huge job for the moderators and also considering the costs.

There is a fantastic idea to help Nairaland up it's game provided it's agents are willing to talk.

I knew it will be igbo. This isn't about tribal bashing or somthing buh they need to take things easy. Violence don't solve violence, evil doesn't curb evil. Now look at them they've killed him when they could have just handed him to the police which i know that's what many of my yoruba brothers would have done which would be termed cowardice act which is better than their position now.

Come and see the way they were fighting themselves inside the market days ago, everyone try to separate them, for where. Ghanaians present were even shocked that they both speak same language and yet injured themselves that much. Everything is not a show of muscle, most of the times you use your brain.

And i guess there is what really differentiate us, they call us cowards for it buh we know it's a gentleman act.
