It was claimed that a Civil defence officer popularly known as Adamu Abubakar Ukasha, had a misunderstanding with members of the Boys Brigade, Zone A, while they were on procession during the easter rally at around 12 midnight in their characteristic manner with music and dancing.

The occupants of the car were the civil defence officer, a police officer friend and two ladies. He (Ukasha) was told to use the other lane since the road was occupied. He protested and even threatened to shoot the Boy on duty with his side pistol.

After the ensuing argument he passed, dropped off the girls, and turned around to the lane where the processionists were, turned off his headlights, and in a spiral motion ram into them killing ten people on the spot and injured over 30 persons.
